What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Nissan Maxima?

At 45.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report so you can separate clean examples from cars with prior damage. Then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially on any listing that looks unusually cheap or has incomplete service records. Focus your evaluation on overall condition, repair quality, and signs of consistent maintenance rather than price alone.

What is the 2017 Nissan Maxima's resale value?

That price movement suggests the Maxima has already absorbed a meaningful amount of depreciation, which can help future resale stability if you buy at the right price. If you keep the car in strong condition and maintain it well, you may be better positioned when it is time to sell. Demand should remain supported by the model's strong owner satisfaction and broad appeal to shoppers who want style and features together.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2017 Nissan Maxima or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 30.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 45.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.57% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2016 if:

• At $11,579, the 2016 costs less than the current year's $12,617 average.
• It puts styling first and rewards buyers who already like its look.

The bottom line: If you want the stronger all-around value play, the 2017 is the better starting point because it combines a lower current price, solid owner satisfaction, and a decent deal share. If your top priority is spending less upfront, the 2016 is the better secondary path, especially if you find one in excellent condition.
