For used buyers, that suggests the bigger risk is less about day-to-day livability and more about finding a well-kept example that has been maintained consistently over time.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Nissan Maxima?

At 48% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and confirm whether any prior damage was repaired properly. Then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection so you can check for signs of uneven wear, poor repairs, or neglected maintenance. Focus especially on overall condition, because the best used examples will stand out more on care and history than on age alone.

What is the 2017 Nissan Maxima's resale value?

The current average of $12,843 sits slightly below last year's $14,146.

That softer pricing can help you buy more affordably now, but it also means future resale gains may be more limited if the market stays under pressure. If you plan to sell later, condition and maintenance history will matter even more, because well-kept examples are the ones most likely to hold buyer interest. Strong pricing discipline today can also help protect your exit value later.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.45/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2017 Nissan Maxima or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 27.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 48% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.21% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.45/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2016 if:

• At $11,817, the 2016 costs less than the current year's $12,843 average.
• It emphasizes styling and broad appeal for buyers who like its design.

The bottom line: The 2017 is the better primary choice if you want the stronger value proposition, better market support, and a well-liked ownership experience. If your budget is tighter and you want to spend less upfront, the 2016 is the secondary path worth considering, especially if you find one in excellent condition.
