Is the 2017 Nissan Frontier a good car?

Generally — the 2017 Nissan Frontier earns a 4.08/5 user rating, which points to solid owner satisfaction. Owners most often praise its value, comfort, and size, and they also describe it as durable and reliable with a nice ride. That fits a truck aimed at buyers who want a practical, work-ready pickup without paying for more complexity than they need. With 28.8% of listings marked as good or great deals, you still have room to shop selectively.

Is the 2017 Nissan Frontier reliable?

Owners rate it 4.08/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owner feedback repeatedly describes the Frontier as durable, reliable, and a truck you can count on. The same themes show up in comments about its trouble-free character and its appeal as a dependable used pickup with a long-term ownership reputation.

For used buyers, that suggests the bigger risk is less about the model’s basic durability and more about how each individual truck was maintained and used.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Nissan Frontier?

At 62.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and confirm whether any prior damage was repaired properly. Then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially on trucks that may have seen towing, off-road use, or heavier work.

Focus on overall condition, not just mileage. Pay close attention to signs of wear in the suspension, brakes, interior, and bed, since those areas can reveal how hard the truck was used.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Nissan Frontier?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly on strong listings.

• Deal availability: 28.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 866 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices are up 1.28% year-over-year.
• Clean inventory: 62.1% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $15,605, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 Nissan Frontier's resale value?

The current average of $16,198 sits slightly above last year's $15,993.

That modest increase suggests the Frontier has held value reasonably well in the used market. If you buy carefully and keep the truck in good condition, you should have a decent chance of preserving a fair share of your purchase price later.

The model’s value-focused reputation also helps support demand, especially among shoppers looking for a practical midsize pickup rather than a more expensive alternative.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.08/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2017 Nissan Frontier or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 28.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 62.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices are up 1.28% year-over-year.
• Owners rate it 4.08/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2016 if:

• At $15,244, the 2016 costs less than the current year's $16,198 average.
• It offers a simple, proven setup with a familiar carryover design.

The bottom line: If you want the stronger all-around shopping target, the 2017 is the better primary choice because it combines solid owner satisfaction with a healthy deal pool and stable pricing. If your main goal is to spend less up front, the 2016 is the better secondary path, especially if you find one in strong condition.
