Summary
With 243 currently listed for sale and an average price of $9,952, 31.3% of 2017 Mitsubishi Outlander Sports for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2017 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport 5 / 5 stars.

Why it stands out
The 2017 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport stands out as an affordable, long-running subcompact crossover that has changed little over time. It offers a sedan-like ride with hatchback access, a higher ride height, and available all-wheel drive, and Mitsubishi says the model uses a shortened version of the platform used in the Outlander. For shoppers who want a simple, budget-friendly SUV, that combination of utility and low cost is a big part of its appeal.
For 2017, the Outlander Sport added an LE trim between the ES and SE, and the SE was upgraded to the 2.4-liter engine. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto also started to show up in higher-spec models at this time. Those updates make this model year more appealing than earlier versions, especially for buyers who want some modern connectivity without moving into a more expensive vehicle.
The tradeoffs are clear, though. The Outlander Sport is described as having lackluster power output and a plasticky interior, and its weak engine and cheap interior materials are listed among its drawbacks. Even so, its standard all-wheel drive, easy-to-drive nature, and affordability help explain why it remains a practical choice for buyers who value value over flash.

FEATURES are pretty much the standard. The car is a GOOD VALUE. This car does not have heated seats. CRV ect. an on a slightly smaller size SUV and thus has a smaller payload capacity; no third row seating.

How much does the 2017 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $9,979 |
| Year-Round Low | $9,681 |
| Year-Round High | $10,747 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $10,251 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −2.66% |
Prices have softened 2.66% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 244 listings available, which gives you a modest amount of inventory to compare before you buy.
Is the 2017 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport a good car?
Yes — based on a 5/5 user rating, this model year lands strongly with shoppers. The 2017 Outlander Sport is positioned as an affordable, long-running subcompact crossover that offers a sedan-like ride, hatchback access, a higher ride height, and available all-wheel drive, so it fits well if you want simple utility without paying for a more expensive SUV. It also gained an LE trim and added Apple CarPlay and Android Auto to higher-spec models, which makes it more appealing if you want budget-friendly convenience features. With 32.0% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have a decent chance of finding a competitive offer.
Is the 2017 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The 2017 Outlander Sport is described as a long-running model that has changed little over time, which can be a plus if you value a familiar, straightforward ownership experience. Its appeal comes from practicality, affordability, and standard all-wheel drive rather than complexity or flash. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that a budget-focused vehicle can show wear more quickly if maintenance or prior use has been uneven.
What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport?
At 63.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report so you can separate clean examples from cars with past damage. Then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially on body condition, alignment, and signs of uneven wear that can hint at prior repairs. Because this model is valued for affordability, you should focus on overall condition and maintenance quality rather than just the lowest asking price.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find value.
- Deal availability: 32.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 244 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 2.66% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 63.1% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $9,681, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2017 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport's resale value?
The current average of $9,979 sits slightly below last year's $10,251.
That softer pricing suggests the market has eased a bit, which can help you buy at a more favorable entry point today. For a future seller, it also means you should expect resale value to depend heavily on condition, mileage, and how well the vehicle has been maintained. If you buy carefully and keep the car in strong shape, you give yourself a better chance of holding value when it is time to sell.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2017 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2017 if:
- 32.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 63.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 2.66% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: The 2017 is a strong choice if you want a budget-friendly, easy-to-live-with crossover and you can verify that the specific vehicle has a clean history and solid condition. If you are especially price-sensitive, you may also want to compare nearby years and focus on the best-maintained example rather than the newest badge alone.
