How much does the 2017 Mercedes-Benz CLA cost?

Is the 2017 Mercedes-Benz CLA a good car?

Generally — the 4/5 user rating and 6.8/10 expert rating point to a car that makes a strong style-first case rather than a broad all-around one. The 2017 Mercedes-Benz CLA is positioned as the cheapest entry into the Mercedes brand, and its appeal is tied to that combination of badge value and distinctive design. The standout strength is Look and feel at 9/10.

That makes it a good fit if you want a compact luxury sedan with a runway-grade personality and you care more about visual impact than maximum practicality. 33.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which suggests there are still some attractive opportunities in the market.

Is the 2017 Mercedes-Benz CLA reliable?

Owners rate it 4/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The CLA’s body structure is described as solid, stiff, and strong, and the car’s overall character leans toward durability in the way it feels on the road. Its 2.0-liter turbocharged engine and 7-speed dual-clutch automatic are presented as capable, though the transmission can feel less smooth in everyday driving than a traditional automatic. The cost side of ownership also matters here: the CLA’s entry-level pricing helps, but it still asks you to accept some sacrifices in luxury and refinement.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that a stylish, lower-priced luxury car can still bring higher upkeep expectations than a mainstream sedan, so condition and maintenance history matter.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Mercedes-Benz CLA?

At 49.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has been modified, lightly equipped, or priced well below the market. Focus on body condition, signs of prior repair, and whether the car’s equipment matches the listing, since the CLA’s appeal depends heavily on trim and option content.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The CLA250 4Matic tested here adds all-wheel drive and pairs with the car’s stylish, upscale presentation, while the standard front-wheel-drive version is the more efficiency-focused setup. Base cars can feel lighter on equipment, so you should pay close attention to whether the features you want are actually present.
• Powertrain: The 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four makes 208 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque, and it is paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic. The front-wheel-drive version is rated at 24 mpg city/36 highway, while the 4Matic version is rated at 23 mpg city/32 highway.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes auto-braking with forward collision alert, a backup camera with two views, and Attention Assist. The Driver Assistance package adds blind-spot monitoring, lane-keep assist, and adaptive cruise control.
• Infotainment: A standard 8-inch screen is included, along with a rotary controller, navigation with real-time traffic info, and available telematics apps. Premium and Multimedia packages add more of the modern convenience and entertainment content you’d expect.
• Fuel efficiency: The front-wheel-drive version is rated at 24 mpg city/36 highway, and the 4Matic version is rated at 23 mpg city/32 highway.

Which 2017 Mercedes-Benz CLA trim should I buy?

The 2017 Mercedes-Benz CLA is offered in 2 trim levels: CLA250 4Matic, AMG CLA45.

Here's the short version:

• CLA250 4Matic: This is the more approachable choice if you want the CLA’s style and Mercedes badge without chasing the highest-output version. It delivers the core 2.0-liter turbocharged setup, and it’s the better-value pick for most shoppers because it captures the car’s design and everyday usability without moving into the more extreme performance territory.
• AMG CLA45: This is the enthusiast choice, with 375 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque plus an optional sport exhaust. It suits you if you want the most aggressive version of the CLA and care more about performance character than value.

The Driver Assistance package adds blind-spot monitoring, lane-keep assist, and adaptive cruise control.

• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.41% compared with last year.

What is the 2017 Mercedes-Benz CLA's resale value?

The current average of $12,700 sits slightly below last year's $13,866.

That price movement suggests the CLA has already absorbed a meaningful amount of depreciation, which can help future sellers if they buy at the right price. If you shop carefully now, you may have less downside left than a buyer who paid closer to the original market peak. The CLA’s style-first appeal can also help keep interest alive among shoppers who want a premium badge without moving into a larger Mercedes.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2017 Mercedes-Benz CLA safe?

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard driver-assistance features include auto-braking with forward collision alert, a backup camera with two angles, and Attention Assist. The Driver Assistance package adds blind-spot monitoring, lane-keep assist, and adaptive cruise control. If you want those extra aids, you should make sure the car you’re considering actually has that package installed.

Should I buy a 2017 Mercedes-Benz CLA or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 33.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 49.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.41% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• The 2017 update brings a refreshed look and standard auto-braking with forward collision alert.

The bottom line: If you want the CLA’s style-first personality and you’re shopping for value, the 2017 is the right place to focus because it combines softer pricing with a broad enough inventory to compare condition and equipment. If you’re especially price-sensitive, look for the cleanest example you can find near the low end of the range; if you want more features, prioritize cars with the right packages rather than simply the lowest sticker.
