CarGurus Analysis: 2017 Lincoln MKZ
overall

Summary
With 411 currently listed for sale and an average price of $13,587.00, 27.5% of 2017 Lincoln MKZs for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2017 Lincoln MKZ 4.77 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.33 / 10.
57.7% of 2017 MKZ models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2017 Lincoln MKZ stands out as a redesigned take on Lincoln’s entry-level luxury sedan, with a new front end, a new engine, and a long list of standard equipment. It was also given an exclusive new 3.0-liter V6 with class-leading power, which helps explain why this model was positioned as a more serious performance and luxury contender than before. The available owner feedback lines up with that mission, pointing to a smooth ride, strong performance, and a generous feature set for the money.
What makes the 2017 Lincoln MKZ appealing is the way it tries to deliver more than many rivals without asking buyers to add as much equipment. The summary says its standards would cost more from the competition, and it also notes the new Sync 3 infotainment system as a major upgrade over the outgoing version. At the same time, the car’s appeal is not universal: owner comments suggest some shoppers may miss advanced driver-assistance features such as adaptive cruise control and blind spot monitoring.

Beautiful inside and out. Comfortable and quite ride. Tremendous power and pickup. Feather touch gas pedal and powerful V-6 sends you flying down the road. This roomy AWD sedan handles like a sports car. Lots of leg room even for passengers in the back. Navigation system with Bluetooth that lets you connect your cell for handsfree calling. Loaded with safety features with a 5-star safety rating. Blind spot detection, brake assist, lane assist, collision avoidance system, backup camera, and parking assist. I ended up purchasing this vehicle and it’s great. Very luxurious and fun to drive. The 3.0 V6 is worth the extra money over the 2.0 I4. Has a lot of nice features and super comfortable. Also is a great deal. I love my MKZ and love driving it

This is a beautiful car inside and out. It has every extra feature you could possibly want and more. It is a great highway road trip car, the level of comfort is superior from the heated and ventilated seats to the spaciousness provided in every zone. The ride is so smooth you dont even realize youre in a car. The power under the hood is also surprising. It may not look like it but you could keep up with or even surpass many sports cars. Also, I hit a deer and the car held up remarkably well, although I do not recommend doing so in yours should you buy one. Overall 10/10.

Is the 2017 Lincoln MKZ a good car?
Yes — the 2017 Lincoln MKZ earns a 4.77/5 user rating and a 7.33/10 expert rating. The model scores 8/10 across Performance and Safety.
Owners consistently praise its luxury, comfort, and value for money, and they also call out the smooth ride and powerful performance. That lines up with the overview’s focus on a redesigned entry-level luxury sedan that aims to deliver more standard equipment and a stronger performance story than before.
With 28.9% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have a decent chance of finding a competitive price if you shop carefully.
Is the 2017 Lincoln MKZ reliable?
Owners rate it 4.77/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner summary points to a car that feels luxurious, comfortable, and good value, while also highlighting a smooth ride and powerful performance that owners seem happy to live with over time. The expert drive notes also emphasize that the MKZ’s 2.0T is smooth and fun to drive, which supports the sense that the car is easy to count on day to day.
Lincoln also includes MyKey, which lets you monitor and limit use for a second driver, adding a practical ownership benefit. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is making sure the car was maintained well enough to preserve the premium features and drivability that make it appealing.
What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Lincoln MKZ?
At 57.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has had any bodywork or if the seller cannot clearly document maintenance. Focus on condition details that matter in a luxury sedan: how the electronics work, whether the ride still feels composed, and whether the cabin features operate as expected.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base Premiere gets the 8-inch Sync 3 touchscreen, adaptive suspension, dual-zone climate control, rear parking sensors, heated mirrors, and keyless entry and ignition, while higher trims add leather upholstery, power adjustments, ambient lighting, and more convenience features.
- Powertrain: The standard turbocharged 2.0-liter engine is paired with a 6-speed automatic and is described as smooth and fun to drive, while the available 3.0-liter V6 brings much stronger performance and can drop the 0-60 time to under 5 seconds.
- Safety package: Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert come with the Select Plus Package, while the Technology Package adds adaptive cruise control, pre-collision with pedestrian detection, lane-keep assist, auto-park, front sensors, and rain-sensing wipers with de-ice capability.
- Infotainment: Sync 3 uses an 8-inch touchscreen and supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, with the system described as fast, intuitive, and a major upgrade over the previous setup.
- Fuel efficiency: The 2.0-liter FWD model is rated at 24 mpg combined, 21 city, and 31 highway, while AWD drops to 23 combined, 21 city, and 28 highway. The 3.0-liter V6 is rated at 21 mpg combined in FWD form and 20 combined with AWD.
Which 2017 Lincoln MKZ trim should I buy?
The 2017 Lincoln MKZ is offered in 4 trim levels: Premiere, Select, Reserve, Black Label.
Here's the short version:
- Base trim: Premiere gives you the essentials, but you miss out on leather upholstery, power seat adjustments, and the more advanced driver-assistance features that show up in higher trims and packages.
- Sweet-spot trim: Select is the best value if you want a more upscale feel, because it adds leather upholstery, more seat and steering-wheel adjustment, ambient lighting, and access to the useful safety and tech packages.
- Premium/top trim: Reserve adds the most luxury-oriented upgrades, including 19-inch alloys, front-seat ventilation, and the available Revel Ultima stereo and adaptive LED headlights.
- Off-road trim: The 3.0-liter AWD setup is the one to watch if you want the strongest performance, but it adds cost and is more than most daily drivers need.
The safety-package note to keep in mind is that blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are not standard on every version, so you should verify whether the car you’re considering has the right package.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Lincoln MKZ?
This is a moderate buyer’s market, so you can shop selectively without expecting every listing to be a bargain.
- Deal availability: 28.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 422 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 2.73% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 57.8% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $12,802.17, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2017 Lincoln MKZ's resale value?
The current average of $13,665 sits slightly below last year's $14,049.
That price movement suggests the market has cooled a bit, which can help you buy more confidently now if you plan to keep the car for a while. If you’re thinking about resale later, the softer current pricing means your upside is more about buying well than expecting rapid appreciation. A well-kept example should still hold appeal because the MKZ’s feature content and comfort-focused reputation remain part of its draw.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.77/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2017 Lincoln MKZ safe?
It earns a five-star overall safety rating from both NHTSA and IIHS, though both organizations gave it second-best scores in their total front-impact protection and small-overlap frontal-offset test, respectively.
It earns a 8/10 safety score from our experts.
The MKZ includes standard safety equipment plus MyKey, which lets you monitor and limit use for a second driver. It can also be fitted with inflatable rear seatbelts for added protection. If you’re shopping used, pay close attention to whether the car has the available driver-assistance packages, since features like blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, and pre-collision with pedestrian detection are not universal.
Should I buy a 2017 Lincoln MKZ or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2017 if:
- 28.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 57.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 2.73% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.77/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- It brings a redesigned front end, a new 3.0-liter V6, and Sync 3, which are the standout upgrades for this year.
The bottom line: If you want the strongest mix of value, comfort, and updated tech, the 2017 MKZ is the year to target. If you’re especially price-sensitive, shop carefully for a well-kept example with the right safety and convenience packages, because the best-equipped cars are where this model makes the most sense.
