CarGurus Analysis: 2017 Lincoln MKZ
overall

Summary
With 438 currently listed for sale and an average price of $13,829, 30.8% of 2017 Lincoln MKZs for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2017 Lincoln MKZ 4.77 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.33 / 10.
61.0% of 2017 MKZ models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2017 Lincoln MKZ stands out as a redesigned entry-level luxury sedan that brings more power, a new engine, and an impressive list of standard equipment. Lincoln also gave it a new front end and the new Sync 3 infotainment system, which is described as a big upgrade over the outgoing version. For shoppers drawn to comfort and value, the MKZ’s appeal is clear: it aims to offer a long list of features that would cost more from the competition, while also delivering the luxury feel many owners appreciate.
Its headline mechanical change is an exclusive new 3.0-liter V6 with class-leading power, and the summary points to a 400-hp engine as a major reason the car can compete more aggressively in the luxury sedan segment. At the same time, the MKZ’s long-running connection to the Ford Fusion and resistance to Lincoln’s split-wing grille have been part of its challenge in winning over loyalists from German and Japanese rivals. Some owners also note gaps in available advanced safety equipment, including adaptive cruise control and blind spot monitoring, so the MKZ’s strengths are strongest when judged as a comfort- and feature-focused luxury sedan rather than a fully loaded technology showcase.

Beautiful inside and out. Comfortable and quite ride. Tremendous power and pickup. Feather touch gas pedal and powerful V-6 sends you flying down the road. This roomy AWD sedan handles like a sports car. Lots of leg room even for passengers in the back. Navigation system with Bluetooth that lets you connect your cell for handsfree calling. Loaded with safety features with a 5-star safety rating. Blind spot detection, brake assist, lane assist, collision avoidance system, backup camera, and parking assist. Auto dim for the side and rearview mirrors. Memory for three driver seat and mirror settings.

I ended up purchasing this vehicle and it’s great. Very luxurious and fun to drive. The 3.0 V6 is worth the extra money over the 2.0 I4. Has a lot of nice features and super comfortable. Also is a great deal. I love my MKZ and love driving it

This is a beautiful car inside and out. It has every extra feature you could possibly want and more. It is a great highway road trip car, the level of comfort is superior from the heated and ventilated seats to the spaciousness provided in every zone. The ride is so smooth you dont even realize youre in a car. The power under the hood is also surprising. It may not look like it but you could keep up with or even surpass many sports cars. Also, I hit a deer and the car held up remarkably well, although I do not recommend doing so in yours should you buy one. Overall 10/10.

The overview also points to a long list of standard equipment and a comfort-focused luxury-sedan mission, which fits shoppers who want features and refinement without stretching into pricier rivals.

Is the 2017 Lincoln MKZ reliable?
Owners rate it 4.77/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner summary points to a car that feels luxurious, comfortable, and good value for the money, with many drivers highlighting the smooth ride and strong performance. That same feedback suggests you can count on the MKZ to deliver a pleasant ownership experience if you choose a well-kept example.
The expert review also describes the MKZ’s 2.0-liter turbocharged engine as smooth and fun to drive, with solid power and little turbo lag, which supports the impression of a dependable daily driver. Lincoln’s current maintenance and rebate support can help lower ownership costs, but used buyers should still pay close attention to service history and condition because luxury features can be expensive to sort out later.
What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Lincoln MKZ?
At 60.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially on cars with higher mileage or visible cosmetic wear. Focus on how the car drives, whether the electronics work properly, and whether the luxury features operate as expected, since those are the kinds of issues that can affect ownership satisfaction and repair costs.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The Premiere trim includes front-wheel drive, adaptive suspension, adaptive xenon headlights with LED taillights, keyless entry and ignition, dual-zone automatic climate control, rear parking sensors, heated mirrors, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and the Sync 3 system on an 8-inch touchscreen. The Select adds leather upholstery, power steering-wheel adjustment, 4-way power lumbar adjustment, ambient lighting, power-folding mirrors, rear USB ports, and a 110-volt outlet. The Reserve adds the Select Plus content plus a power trunk, 19-inch alloys, and front-seat ventilation. The Reserve is the best-value trim if you want the richest standard equipment without chasing every option package.
- Powertrain: The standard setup is a turbocharged 2.0-liter engine with a 6-speed automatic, and the model also offers a bi-turbo 3.0-liter V6 with 350 hp in front-wheel-drive form and 400 hp with all-wheel drive. The 2.0-liter is described as smooth and fun, while the V6 brings much stronger acceleration.
- Safety package: The available driver-assistance content includes blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, pre-collision with pedestrian detection, lane-keep assist, auto-park, front sensors, and rain-sensing wipers with de-ice capability. Some of those features are packaged rather than standard, so you should confirm exactly what a specific car has.
- Infotainment: Sync 3 uses an 8-inch touchscreen and supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The system is described as fast, intuitive, and a major upgrade over the previous setup.
- Fuel efficiency: The 2.0-liter front-wheel-drive model is rated at 24 mpg combined, with 21 city and 31 highway. All-wheel drive drops that to 23 mpg combined, with 21 city and 28 highway. The 3.0-liter V6 is rated at 21 mpg combined in front-wheel-drive form and 20 mpg combined with all-wheel drive. The hybrid returns 40 mpg combined, with 41 city and 38 highway.
Which 2017 Lincoln MKZ trim should I buy?
The 2017 Lincoln MKZ is offered in 4 trim levels: Premiere, Select, Reserve, Black Label.
Here's the short version:
- Premiere: This is the entry point, and it already gives you a strong feature set with adaptive suspension, adaptive xenon headlights, dual-zone climate control, rear parking sensors, and Sync 3. It makes sense if you want the lowest starting price and still want the core MKZ luxury experience.
- Select: This trim adds leather upholstery, more seat and steering-wheel adjustment, ambient lighting, power-folding mirrors, rear USB ports, and a 110-volt outlet. It is the best-value trim if you want a more upscale cabin without jumping too far up the price ladder.
- Reserve: This is the most appealing all-around choice if you want the richest standard equipment, since it builds on the Select and adds the Select Plus content, a power trunk, 19-inch wheels, and front-seat ventilation. It is the trim most likely to satisfy shoppers who want a near-top-spec MKZ without going all the way to the special edition.
- Black Label: This is the top-line edition with upgraded leather and wood trim and theme-based customization. It is the choice if you want the most exclusive presentation and are willing to pay for it.
The safety content also notes that some advanced driver-assistance features are not standard across the lineup, so check each car carefully for the exact package content.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Lincoln MKZ?
This is a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory and deal activity to reward careful comparison shopping.
- Deal availability: 30.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 438 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 60.5% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $12,801, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2017 Lincoln MKZ's resale value?
The current average of $13,822 sits slightly below last year's $13,848.
That small decline suggests the MKZ has been holding value in a fairly stable way rather than swinging sharply up or down. For a future seller, that kind of pricing pattern usually means you should expect a predictable market rather than a sudden premium.
The model’s strong feature content and owner satisfaction help support demand, especially for shoppers who want luxury value over badge prestige. Well-equipped examples with clean history and desirable options should be easier to move than stripped or poorly maintained cars.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.77/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2017 Lincoln MKZ safe?
The 2017 Lincoln MKZ earns five-star ratings from both NHTSA and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, though both organizations also gave it second-best scores in frontal-impact protection and small-overlap frontal-offset testing.
It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.
The MKZ includes standard safety equipment along with MyKey, which lets you monitor and limit use for a second driver. It can also be fitted with inflatable rear seatbelts for added protection.
Some advanced driver-assistance features are not standard, including blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert, so you should verify the exact equipment on any used example. The lower crash-test sub-scores are worth noting if safety is a top priority.
Should I buy a 2017 Lincoln MKZ or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2017 if:
- 30.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 60.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.77/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2017 model brings a redesigned front end, the new Sync 3 system, and an exclusive 3.0-liter V6 with class-leading power.
The bottom line: If you want the MKZ with the strongest mix of value, comfort, and updated tech, the 2017 is the one to target. If your priority is simply the lowest purchase price, you can still find attractive examples, but you should be especially selective about condition, equipment, and accident history.
