Is the 2017 Lexus IS a good car?

Yes — the 2017 Lexus IS earns a 4.5/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction for this model year. The overview describes it as a compact luxury sports sedan that blends sharp styling with a strong emphasis on driving feel, plus an upscale cabin and standard safety equipment. It also suits you well if you want a small luxury sedan with a genuinely sporty character, though the tight rear seat makes it less ideal if you regularly carry passengers. 30.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2017 Lexus IS reliable?

Owners rate it 4.5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The overview emphasizes Lexus’s safety equipment, upscale build, and polished driving character, all of which support confidence in day-to-day ownership. At the same time, you should still weigh the model’s premium-fuel appetite and compact rear-seat packaging, since those factors can affect how satisfied you feel over time.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Lexus IS?

At 38.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and confirm whether any prior damage was repaired properly. Put a pre-purchase inspection at the top of your list, with extra attention to body panels, alignment, suspension feel, and signs of uneven wear. Because this model is positioned as a sporty luxury sedan, condition matters a lot: a clean, well-kept example is more likely to deliver the driving feel and ownership experience you want.

What is the 2017 Lexus IS's resale value?

The current average of $20,342 sits slightly below last year's $20,989.

That softer pricing can help you buy more carefully now, but it also means future resale gains may be limited unless you choose a particularly clean, well-maintained example. If you plan to sell later, condition and documentation will matter a lot because buyers in this segment tend to reward cars that feel well preserved. A strong service history and accident-free record can help you stand out when it is time to list the car.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2017 Lexus IS or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 30.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 38.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.08% compared with last year.

The bottom line: If you want the updated styling, standard safety tech, and a sporty luxury feel, the 2017 is the right primary target. If your priority is stretching your budget further, you may want to compare nearby years and focus on the cleanest, best-priced example rather than the newest one.
