Is the 2017 Lexus ES a good car?

Is the 2017 Lexus ES reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Drivers describe it as reliable, dependable, and trouble-free, with strong praise for its build quality and the kind of ownership experience you can count on. That combination matters if you want a used luxury sedan that should feel reassuring over time. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about the model’s reputation and more about finding one that has been maintained well and hasn’t had hidden damage.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Lexus ES?

At 49.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should run a vehicle history report on every candidate and confirm whether any prior damage was repaired properly. Put inspection priority on body panels, paint consistency, alignment, and signs of uneven wear that could point to past collision work. You should also focus on overall condition inside and out, since a luxury sedan like this is best when it still feels well cared for.

That upward move suggests the market still values this model year, which can help support resale strength if you buy carefully. If you keep mileage reasonable and choose a clean-history example, you should be in a better position when it’s time to sell.

Should I buy a 2017 Lexus ES or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 35.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 49.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices are up 3.75% year-over-year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2016 if:

• At $19,822, the 2016 costs less than the current year's $22,079 average.
• It offers a value-minded, comfort-focused luxury experience.

The bottom line: If you want the stronger overall market signal and are comfortable paying more for a newer model year, the 2017 is the better primary path. If your priority is stretching your budget, the 2016 is the smarter secondary option because it delivers the same relaxed, comfort-first character at a lower entry price.
