How much does the 2017 Kia Sorento cost?

Prices have softened 8.06% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,281 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of options to compare.

Is the 2017 Kia Sorento a good car?

Yes — the 2017 Kia Sorento earns a 4.6/5 user rating and a 9.33/10 expert rating. The model scores 10/10 across Cost effectiveness, Technology, and Safety.

Owners repeatedly praise the smooth ride and stylish interior, and comfort comes up often as a major strength. The V6 engine also gets positive mention for its power, while the Sorento’s overall balance and refinement make it appealing if you want a well-rounded midsize SUV rather than a single standout trait.

It fits especially well if you want a family-friendly crossover with a polished feel, useful everyday practicality, and a strong value proposition. 31.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which suggests there are worthwhile opportunities in the market.

Is the 2017 Kia Sorento reliable?

Owners rate it 4.6/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a vehicle that many people feel good about living with over time, especially because they highlight the smooth ride, comfort, and overall quality. The review summary also notes that some owners appreciated the Sorento’s dependable feel and long-term appeal, even while a few mentioned occasional engine issues.

The expert evaluation reinforces that impression by describing the Sorento as engineered to exceed demanding warranty coverage, which supports the case for durability-minded shoppers. Kia’s standard and powertrain warranty reputation also adds to the ownership story.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that a few examples may have engine-related concerns, so service history matters.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Kia Sorento?

At 59.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and confirm whether any prior damage was repaired properly. A pre-purchase inspection is especially important here, since condition can vary a lot from one listing to another. Pay close attention to signs of uneven wear, repair quality, and how well the cabin and electronics have held up.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup includes L, LX, EX, SX, and SX Limited. The base L is the most stripped-down version, while higher trims add more upscale styling and equipment, with the SX Limited standing out for its premium cabin treatment.
• Powertrain: You can get a 185-horsepower 2.4-liter 4-cylinder in the L and LX, a 240-horsepower turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder in the EX, or a 290-horsepower 3.3-liter V6 in the LX, EX, SX, and SX Limited. The V6 is the strongest choice, and it can tow up to 5,000 pounds.
• Safety package: Automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, and lane-departure warning are available on all trim levels except the basic L. The LX V6 can add blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert, and only the SX Limited gets a 360-degree surround-view camera system.
• Infotainment: Kia’s UVO system is available for most versions, and it includes Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Siri support, Pandora, Yelp, connected services, and a parking minder. The system is controlled through a display screen with physical knobs for volume and tuning.
• Fuel efficiency: The V6 with all-wheel drive is expected to return 19 mpg in combined driving, and the test vehicle averaged 19.4 mpg on the review loop.

Which 2017 Kia Sorento trim should I buy?

The 2017 Kia Sorento is offered in 5 trim levels: L, LX, EX, SX, and SX Limited.

Here's the short version:

• L: This is the entry point, but it is the least equipped and misses out on the advanced safety features available on higher trims. It makes sense only if your budget is tight and you’re comfortable with a simpler setup.
• LX: This is the better starting point for most shoppers because it opens the door to more available equipment and can be paired with the V6. If you want a value-oriented Sorento without jumping too far up the price ladder, this is the trim to focus on.
• EX: This trim adds the turbocharged 2.0-liter engine and sits in a strong middle ground for buyers who want more power and a richer feature mix without going all the way to the top.
• SX: This is the better choice if you want the V6 as standard and prefer a more premium driving and ownership experience.
• SX Limited: This is the most luxurious version, with the most upscale cabin presentation and the most complete equipment list. It is the right pick if you want the Sorento to feel closest to a luxury SUV.

The safety package is strongest on the higher trims, while the basic L misses several of the key driver-assistance features.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Kia Sorento?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory to shop carefully and enough deal activity to find value.

• Deal availability: 31.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,281 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.06% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 59.6% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $11,091, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 Kia Sorento's resale value?

The current average of $11,091 sits slightly below last year's $12,063.

That decline suggests the market has become more favorable for buyers, but it also means sellers may need to price competitively to stand out. If you own one, a clean history and strong condition matter more than ever because shoppers have alternatives and are comparing value closely.

Well-kept examples with desirable equipment should still draw interest, especially because the Sorento has broad appeal as a practical midsize SUV. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.6/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2017 Kia Sorento safe?

The 2017 Kia Sorento earns Top Safety Pick+ status from the IIHS and a five-star crash test rating from NHTSA.

It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.

Automatic emergency braking is newly available, and the Sorento also offers adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, and lane-departure warning. Those systems are available on all trim levels except the basic L, while the LX V6 can add blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert and the SX Limited gets a 360-degree surround-view camera system.

Should I buy a 2017 Kia Sorento or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 31.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 59.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.06% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.6/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It combines strong value, safety, and technology with a broad trim range and available V6 power.

Consider the 2016 if:

• At $9,856, the 2016 costs less than the current year's $11,091 average.
• It brings a more upscale appearance and a refined interior.

The bottom line: If you want the stronger all-around package, the 2017 is the better pick because it balances value, safety, and features very well. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2016 is the more budget-friendly alternative and still delivers a refined, appealing Sorento experience.
