Used 2017 Kia Niro for Sale nearDayton, OH

How much does the 2017 Kia Niro cost?

Prices are up 1.77% year-over-year — a sign of continued demand for this model year.

There are 109 listings available, which suggests a relatively limited pool of used Niros to shop from.

Is the 2017 Kia Niro a good car?

Generally — the 4/5 user rating points to a solid ownership experience, and the expert score is 6.83/10. The Niro is aimed at buyers who want comfort and practicality without giving up hybrid efficiency, and its crossover-like styling helps it feel less conventional than a typical hybrid. It also offers a comfortable interior, a spacious rear seat, and up to 50 mpg combined, though Kia made some tradeoffs in fuel economy and practicality in pursuit of broader appeal.

The model scores 8/10 across Look and feel, Performance, and Technology.

With 38.5% of listings priced as good or great deals, you have some room to shop carefully and still find a competitive example.

Is the 2017 Kia Niro reliable?

Owners rate it 4/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The Niro’s hybrid system is described as smooth and well integrated, with the gasoline engine and electric motor working together without shuddering or awkward transitions. Its brake feel is also described as more predictable and smooth than on other hybrids, which is a good sign for everyday dependability. Kia’s Uvo system can also remind you about scheduled maintenance and help you book service, which adds convenience for ownership.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is making sure the hybrid system, brakes, and overall condition have been maintained properly, since repair costs can rise if a neglected hybrid is bought cheaply.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Kia Niro?

At 58.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has been in a collision or has higher mileage. Focus on body condition, panel alignment, and signs of uneven wear, since those can reveal whether a previous repair was done well. It also makes sense to confirm that the hybrid system, brakes, and electronics are functioning as expected.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The entry-level FE and midrange LX and EX trims are not as lavishly appointed, while Touring trim adds leather seats and a more upscale feel. The base trim also misses some of the convenience and safety equipment found higher up the range.
• Powertrain: The Niro pairs a 104-hp, 1.6-liter gasoline engine with a 43-hp electric motor and a 1.56kWh lithium-ion polymer battery, routed through a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The hybrid setup is tuned for smooth, efficient everyday driving rather than quick acceleration.
• Safety package: Blind-spot detection with rear cross-traffic alert is standard on the EX and Touring, but not available on the FE or LX. Automatic emergency braking, forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, and smart cruise control are optional on the LX, EX, and Touring, but not available at all on the FE.
• Infotainment: Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come standard, along with a standard 7-inch touchscreen and Uvo telematics. Touring trim upgrades to an 8-inch touchscreen with navigation and a premium 8-speaker sound system with subwoofer.
• Fuel efficiency: Kia says the Niro can achieve up to 50 mpg combined, and the hybrid setup is designed to maximize efficiency while keeping the car usable as a compact crossover.

Which 2017 Kia Niro trim should I buy?

The 2017 Kia Niro is offered in 4 trim levels: FE, LX, EX, Touring.

Here's the short version:

• FE: This is the simplest way into the Niro, and it still gives you standard Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, a 7-inch touchscreen, and Uvo telematics. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost path into the hybrid without needing extra convenience or safety features.
• LX: This trim adds pushbutton start with a smart key, making it the better everyday pick if you want a little more convenience without moving too far up the price ladder.
• EX: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds heated front seats and outside mirrors, plus blind-spot detection with rear cross-traffic alert. If you want a more complete mix of comfort and safety, this is the one to target.
• Touring: This is the most upscale version, with leather seats, an 8-inch touchscreen with navigation, and a premium 8-speaker sound system with subwoofer. It suits you if you want the most features and a more premium cabin feel.

For safety, blind-spot detection with rear cross-traffic alert is standard on the EX and Touring, but not available on the FE or LX.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Kia Niro?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so it pays to compare listings carefully and move quickly on the right car.

• Deal availability: 38.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 109 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices are up 1.77% year-over-year.
• Clean inventory: 58.7% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $10,060, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 Kia Niro's resale value?

The current average of $11,226 sits slightly above last year's $11,031.

That modest increase suggests the Niro has held value reasonably well for a used hybrid, especially given its efficiency and crossover practicality. For a future seller, the current trend is encouraging because it shows buyers are still willing to pay for a well-kept example. The limited inventory also helps support pricing if your car is clean, well maintained, and accident-free.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2017 Kia Niro safe?

It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

The Niro has not yet been rated by the IIHS or NHTSA. It does offer a useful set of available driver-assistance features, including automatic emergency braking, forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, smart cruise control, blind-spot detection, and rear cross-traffic alert. The catch is that several of those features are not standard on lower trims, and the FE misses out on the available active-safety package entirely.

Should I buy a 2017 Kia Niro or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 38.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 58.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices are up 1.77% year-over-year.
• Owners rate it 4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• The 2017 stands out as Kia’s first dedicated hybrid Niro, with a comfortable interior, spacious rear seat, and up to 50 mpg combined.

The bottom line: If you want the earliest Niro and you find a clean, well-priced example, the 2017 can make sense as a comfortable and efficient compact crossover. If you’re shopping more price-sensitive, compare carefully against later model years, which may offer more standard equipment and a broader feature set for similar money.
