How much does the 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee cost?

Prices have softened 9.27% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 4,325 listings available, which suggests solid inventory for comparison shopping.

Is the 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee a good car?

Yes — the 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee earns a 4.77/5 user rating and an 8.5/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Performance at 10/10.

Owners consistently praise the comfortable ride, spacious cabin, and luxury features. The model also gets strong marks for performance, safety, and towing capability, which fits its role as a broad-appeal SUV that can cover both upscale daily driving and Jeep’s rugged identity. The overview points to a vehicle that can feel premium without losing its off-road character, and that combination is a big part of its appeal.

32.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so there are still some attractive opportunities in the market.

Is the 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee reliable?

Owners rate it 4.77/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback points to a dependable-feeling SUV with strong satisfaction around comfort, performance, and towing, and many owners describe it as a vehicle they enjoy living with over time. The expert evaluation also emphasizes Jeep’s long-running reputation for capability and upscale interiors, which supports the idea that this model is built to serve as a durable all-rounder. The cost-effectiveness commentary reinforces that it offers a lot of capability for the money, which can matter when you’re thinking about ownership value over the long haul.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that some examples may not have been maintained to the standard their price and mission demand.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee?

At 61.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and confirm whether any prior damage was repaired properly. A pre-purchase inspection is especially important on this model because condition can vary widely across trims and use cases. Pay close attention to signs of hard use, since this SUV’s capability-focused image can mean some examples have lived a tougher life than average.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Laredo is the base trim and comes with fog lights, halogen quad headlights, 17-inch painted aluminum wheels, dual-zone automatic temperature control, a USB port, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel with audio controls. The Limited adds leather seating, power-adjustable front seats, heated front and second-row seats, 18-inch polished wheels, and a body-colored front fascia with bright insert. The Overland adds LED fog lights, automatic high beams, a dual-pane panoramic moonroof, 20-inch polished aluminum wheels, rain-sensing wipers, perforated Nappa leather, and the 8.4-inch Uconnect touchscreen. The Summit adds headlight washers, unique 20-inch wheels, chrome inserts, LED fog lamps, and an exclusive fascia design. The Trailhawk stands apart with 18-inch wheels wrapped in all-terrain tires, skid plates, a matte black hood, and red tow hooks.
• Powertrain: The base engine is a 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 with 293 horsepower and an 8-speed automatic transmission. You can also get a 5.7-liter Hemi V8 with 360 horsepower or a 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6 with 240 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque. Rear-wheel drive or multiple 4-wheel-drive systems are available, and the base Quadra-Trac I setup lacks the four-low option many drivers want.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes front and side impact airbags, electronic stability control, hill-start assist, a reversing camera, and rear park assist. Available features include forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, front and rear parking sensors, and self-parking. Some of these features are not standard on every trim.
• Infotainment: The base Uconnect 5.0 touchscreen comes on the Laredo and Limited and includes climate controls, stereo menus, settings, and Bluetooth hands-free connectivity. The larger 8.4-inch Uconnect screen comes on the Trailhawk, Overland, and Summit. The base stereo is a 6-speaker unit, while the Trailhawk and Overland get a 506-watt Alpine premium audio system with 9 speakers and a subwoofer, and the Summit gets an 825-watt Harman Kardon system with 19 speakers.
• Fuel efficiency: No fuel-economy figure is stated in the available data.

Which 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee trim should I buy?

The 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee is offered in 6 trim levels: Laredo, Altitude, Limited, Overland, Summit, and Trailhawk.

Here's the short version:

• Laredo: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core Grand Cherokee experience at the lowest starting price. It makes sense if you want the nameplate and capability without paying for extra luxury equipment.
• Limited: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds leather seating, heated front and second-row seats, power-adjustable front seats, and the larger comfort-oriented upgrades that make daily use feel more premium.
• Overland: Choose this if you want a stronger luxury lean, with the panoramic moonroof, Nappa leather, LED lighting, and the 8.4-inch Uconnect screen.
• Summit: This is the most upscale mainstream choice, with unique exterior details, headlight washers, and the premium audio upgrade.
• Trailhawk: Pick this if off-road hardware matters most. It adds all-terrain tires, skid plates, red tow hooks, Quadra-Drive II, air suspension tuned for articulation, and trail-focused drive modes.
• SRT performance trims: This is the performance-oriented choice for buyers who want the sportiest character in the lineup.

The safety package includes standard airbags, stability control, hill-start assist, a reversing camera, and rear park assist, with additional driver-assistance features available on higher trims.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory and deal activity to make comparison shopping worthwhile.

• Deal availability: 32.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 4,325 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.27% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 61.4% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $14,258, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee's resale value?

The current average of $14,258 sits slightly below last year's $15,715.

That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer but may limit upside if you plan to resell soon. If you buy at the right price and keep the vehicle in strong condition, you can reduce the impact of further depreciation. The Grand Cherokee’s broad appeal and strong owner satisfaction should help support demand, especially for well-kept examples with desirable equipment.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.77/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee safe?

The Jeep Grand Cherokee earns a five-star overall crash rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. It also earns a best score of Good from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety in moderate overlap front, side, rear, and roof-strength crash tests.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes front and side impact airbags, electronic stability control, hill-start assist, a reversing camera, and rear park assist. Available driver-assistance features include forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, front and rear parking sensors, and self-parking. Some of those features are not standard across the lineup, so trim choice matters if you want the fullest safety package.

Should I buy a 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 32.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 61.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.27% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.77/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2017 stands out for its broad trim range, strong performance, and the Trailhawk’s especially capable off-road setup.

Consider the 2016 if:

• At $13,149, the 2016 costs less than the current year's $14,258 average.
• It offers broad capability and strong Jeep styling appeal.

The bottom line: If you want the stronger current-market mix of pricing, inventory, and feature breadth, the 2017 is the better primary choice. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2016 is the more budget-friendly path and still delivers the Grand Cherokee’s core strengths.
