The 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport stands out as a well-rounded midsize SUV that combines good looks, a comfortable interior, a roomy cargo area, and an affordable price. Great turning radius, good visibility, and easy to drive. I shoveled the car out of 3+ feet of snow and it started right up! Got my family out of the extreme weather comfortably and safely.

Love this car. It has everything you could want. It dries very comfortably and smooth, the breaking is awesome, and the surround camera view is such a helper. The Seats in the back lay down almost completely flat, provide a great space to pack or go camping, and the storage compartments in the trunk are perfect. Everything fits like a puzzle that’s easy to solve.

OMG, I am in love with my new car. I have luxury features I didnt even know I needed; a heated steering wheel is an absolute necessity at this point. I love the luxury features in this mid size family SUV, heated and cooled seats, with read heated seats that are also adjustable; my kids love to recline. Apple and Android car play Hyundai did not discriminate. Panoramic moonroof, 360 camera, the navigation view appears as an actual map, and the ride is so incredible smooth I love to drive this baby in sport. There is so much to say about this vehicle great buy.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport?
At 62.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle-history report and then prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing has any accident or repair history. Focus on signs of uneven wear, inconsistent panel gaps, and any evidence that safety or driver-assistance systems were repaired after a collision. Because this SUV is marketed as a family vehicle, you’ll want to be especially careful about how well the cabin, electronics, and safety systems have held up.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base version uses a 185-horsepower, 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine, while higher trims add a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder and more equipment. The 2017 update also brought revised styling, minor interior changes, new infotainment systems, and a long list of new driver-assistance and safety technologies.
- Powertrain: You can choose between a 4-cylinder and a turbocharged 4-cylinder engine. The turbocharged engine makes 240 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque, and all-wheel drive is an option.
- Safety package: The available driver-assistance and collision-avoidance technologies include forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, automatic high-beam headlights, dynamic headlights, and a multi-view camera system.
- Infotainment: Versions with navigation get an 8-inch touchscreen, while models without navigation use a 7-inch screen. Both systems include Android Auto, but not Apple CarPlay, and Blue Link subscription services are available.
- Fuel efficiency: The test vehicle averaged 21.5 mpg, and the EPA estimate cited in the source is 23 mpg in combined driving.
Which 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport trim should I buy?
The 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport is offered in 2 trim levels: Santa Fe Sport and Santa Fe Sport 2.0T.
Here's the short version:
- Santa Fe Sport: This is the starting point, and it uses the 185-horsepower, 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine. If you want the lower entry price and a straightforward setup, this is the trim to focus on.
- Santa Fe Sport 2.0T: This is the better choice if you want the stronger turbocharged 2.0-liter engine with 240 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. It suits you best if you care more about brisk acceleration and a more confident feel on the road.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.
- Deal availability: 34.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,397 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 9.51% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 62.1% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $11,248, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport's resale value?
The current average of $11,248 sits slightly below last year's $12,431.
That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer today but may limit upside if you plan to resell soon. If you buy at a strong price and keep the vehicle in good condition, you can reduce the impact of that softer market. The fact that the model still draws positive owner feedback and strong expert marks helps support demand.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.75/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport safe?
The 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport earns a Top Safety Pick+ rating from IIHS and a five-star crash-test rating from NHTSA.
It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.
The safety package includes forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, automatic high-beam headlights, dynamic headlights, and a multi-view camera system. Blue Link also adds SOS emergency assistance, automatic collision notification, and teen-driver features such as speed and curfew alerts.
A key strength here is that the 2017 updates added more driver-assistance and safety technology, and the source specifically ties those structural changes to the Top Safety Pick+ result.
Should I buy a 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2017 if:
- 34.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 62.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 9.51% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.75/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2017 update brought revised styling, new infotainment systems, and a long list of new driver-assistance and safety technologies.
The bottom line: The 2017 is the right pick if you want a well-equipped, safety-focused Santa Fe Sport with strong owner approval and a softer price than a year ago. If you’re especially price-sensitive, you can still shop aggressively within this year’s inventory and target the lower end of the range, but the 2017’s combination of value, safety, and features makes it the primary year to consider.
