How much does the 2017 Honda Pilot cost?

Prices have softened 6.46% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 2,577 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2017 Honda Pilot a good car?

Yes — the 2017 Honda Pilot earns a 4.77/5 from owners and a 7.17/10 expert rating. The model scores 8/10 across Look and feel, Performance, and Form and function.

Owners consistently praise its reliability, spaciousness, and tech features, and they also like the strong AWD capability and comfortable ride. That lines up well with its family-hauling mission, since the Pilot is aimed at buyers who need a practical vehicle for people and cargo. Even with some complaints about fuel economy and transmission behavior, the overall package is appealing if you want a useful, everyday three-row SUV. There are 33.0% good or great deals in the market, which suggests you can still find attractive pricing.

Is the 2017 Honda Pilot reliable?

Owners rate it 4.77/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback repeatedly points to reliability, and the broader commentary also emphasizes dependability and expected longevity. Honda’s reputation for dependability supports that impression, and the Pilot’s everyday usability adds to its appeal as a long-term family vehicle. The powertrain and transmission are generally capable, but some drivers have noted transmission performance concerns, so a careful test drive matters. For used buyers, the main ownership risk is making sure the vehicle has been maintained well enough to avoid expensive surprises later.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Honda Pilot?

At 60.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should run a vehicle history report before you commit, then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection if the listing has any accident history. Focus on body condition, panel alignment, and signs of prior repair, and make sure the drivetrain and electronics behave normally on a test drive. Because this is a family-focused SUV, you should also pay close attention to how well the cabin features and safety systems work in real use.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The LX is the base trim and lacks the HondaLink infotainment system and the Honda Sensing package, while higher trims add more convenience and safety content. The Elite stands out for standard AWD and additional equipment, while the Touring adds big 20-inch wheels.
• Powertrain: Every version uses a 280-horsepower, 3.5-liter V6. The Touring and Elite add a 9-speed automatic, while other trims use a 6-speed automatic.
• Safety package: Honda Sensing is available on every trim except the LX, and it includes driver-assistance and collision-avoidance technologies. Blind-spot warning and rear cross-traffic alert are not available unless you move up to the Elite.
• Infotainment: Higher trims get an 8-inch display, HondaLink services, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, SiriusXM, Pandora, text-messaging support, additional USB ports, and a multi-view reversing camera. The LX does not get HondaLink.
• Fuel efficiency: The AWD model with the 9-speed automatic is rated at 22 mpg combined, and observed fuel economy matched that expectation.

Which 2017 Honda Pilot trim should I buy?

The 2017 Honda Pilot is offered in 5 trim levels: LX, EX, EX-L, Touring, Elite.

Here's the short version:

• LX: This is the entry point, but it leaves out HondaLink and the Honda Sensing package, so it makes the most sense only if you want the lowest starting price and can live without the extra tech and driver assistance.
• EX: This is the first trim that unlocks Honda Sensing, making it the best-value choice if safety tech matters to you.
• EX-L: This trim adds leather and is the better pick if you want a more upscale cabin without jumping to the pricier Touring or Elite models.
• Touring: This trim adds the 9-speed automatic, big 20-inch wheels, rear-seat entertainment, and more convenience features, so it suits you if you want a well-equipped family hauler.
• Elite: This is the top trim, with standard AWD, heated and ventilated front seats, heated second-row captain’s chairs, and the fullest equipment list.

Honda Sensing is available on every trim except the LX, but blind-spot warning and rear cross-traffic alert are reserved for the Elite.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Honda Pilot?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you have room to shop carefully without rushing.

• Deal availability: 33.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,577 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.46% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 60.6% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $16,873, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 Honda Pilot's resale value?

The current average of $16,925 sits slightly below last year's $18,095.

That decline suggests the market has become a bit more favorable for buyers, but it also means sellers may need to price competitively to move a used Pilot. If you own one, the softer pricing trend can reduce your upside in the short term, especially if your vehicle has higher mileage or visible wear. On the other hand, the Pilot’s strong owner satisfaction helps support demand, which can cushion resale values better than weaker-rated rivals.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.77/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2017 Honda Pilot safe?

The 2017 Honda Pilot earns a 5-star crash-test rating from the federal government and a Top Safety Pick rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, with Top Safety Pick+ status when equipped with Honda Sensing.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Honda Sensing is the named driver-assistance suite, and it is available on every trim except the LX. The system brings collision-avoidance and driver-assistance technology, but blind-spot warning and rear cross-traffic alert are not available unless you choose the Elite. The Pilot’s safety tech is a strong part of its appeal, though the system’s real-world behavior can be less polished than you might hope.

Should I buy a 2017 Honda Pilot or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 33.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 60.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.46% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.77/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2017 stands out for its strong AWD capability, comfortable ride, and family-friendly tech.

Consider the 2016 if:

• At $14,780, the 2016 costs less than the current year's $16,925 average.
• It blends tall, truck-like proportions with a minivan chassis.

The bottom line: If you want the stronger overall mix of owner satisfaction, market availability, and safety content, the 2017 is the better default choice. If your priority is saving money upfront, the 2016 is the more budget-friendly path and still delivers the Pilot’s core family-hauling strengths.
