How much does the 2021 Honda Pilot cost?

Prices have softened 6.34% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 2,649 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2021 Honda Pilot a good car?

Yes — the 2021 Honda Pilot earns a 4.86/5 user rating and a 7.17/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Form and function at 9/10.

Owners consistently praise its spaciousness, smooth ride, and overall value for a large SUV. They also like the technology and safety features, and many see it as a practical family vehicle that delivers everyday usefulness. The main trade-offs are its dated design and the fact that some shoppers may find the styling less appealing than rivals.

That lines up with the overview: you’re looking at a three-row SUV that prioritizes interior usefulness, comfort, and straightforward technology over flash. If you want a large SUV that’s easy to live with, the Pilot fits that brief well.

36.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so there’s meaningful market opportunity if you shop carefully.

Is the 2021 Honda Pilot reliable?

Owners rate it 4.86/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a vehicle that feels spacious, smooth, and dependable enough for family use over time. The expert evaluation also emphasizes Honda’s reputation as a known quantity that is likely to be reliable and last a long time. That combination suggests the Pilot is built for steady ownership rather than drama.

Honda also frames the Pilot as a vehicle that can be worth something when you decide to replace it, which supports confidence in long-term ownership. For used buyers, the main risk is less about the brand’s reputation and more about finding a well-kept example with a clean history and consistent maintenance.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Honda Pilot?

At 73.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or one with visible wear. Focus on condition, maintenance records, and signs of prior bodywork or uneven panel fit. Because this model is often bought for family duty, interior wear and evidence of heavy use are worth checking closely.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base LX is the most stripped-down version, while higher trims add more comfort and convenience features. The Special Edition stands out with black 20-inch alloy wheels, blacked-out exterior trim, wireless smartphone charging, and a hands-free power tailgate.
• Powertrain: Every version uses a 3.5-liter V6 with 280 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque, paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive is standard, and all-wheel drive is available on most trims.
• Safety package: Honda Sensing is standard and includes adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and lane-keeping assist. Starting with EX trim, you also get blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic warning.
• Infotainment: Most versions use an 8-inch touchscreen with Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, text-messaging support, satellite radio, and a basic version of HondaLink. Wireless phone charging appears on the Special Edition, while Touring adds navigation, a WiFi hotspot, and a 10-speaker premium audio system.
• Fuel efficiency: The AWD version is rated at 22 mpg in combined driving, and the test vehicle averaged 21.5 mpg on the testing loop.

Which 2021 Honda Pilot trim should I buy?

The 2021 Honda Pilot is offered in 7 trim levels: LX, EX, EX-L, Special Edition, Touring, Elite, and Black Edition.

Here's the short version:

• LX: This is the entry point, so it makes sense if you want the Pilot’s core space and V6 power at the lowest price, but it’s the least equipped version.
• EX: This is the first trim that adds blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic warning, making it the best-value choice for many shoppers who want a stronger safety and convenience mix.
• EX-L: Choose this if you want a more upscale feel without jumping too far up the price ladder.
• Special Edition: This is the best-value upgrade if you want extra style and convenience, thanks to blacked-out trim, wireless charging, and a hands-free power tailgate.
• Touring: Pick this if you want the richer tech setup, including navigation, a WiFi hotspot, premium audio, rear-seat entertainment, and Cabin Talk.
• Elite: This is the more upscale AWD-focused choice for shoppers who want a fully loaded Pilot.
• Black Edition: This is the most distinctive version, with exclusive blacked-out styling and unique interior details.

Honda Sensing is standard across the lineup, while blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic warning start with EX trim.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Honda Pilot?

This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.

• Deal availability: 36.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,649 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.34% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 73.1% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $24,743, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Honda Pilot's resale value?

The current average of $24,962 sits slightly below last year's $26,651.

That decline suggests the market has become more favorable for buyers, but it also means sellers may need to price competitively to move a used Pilot. If you’re planning to sell later, the current trend points to a softer pricing environment than a year ago, so condition and mileage will matter even more.

The Pilot still benefits from Honda’s strong reputation and broad family appeal, which helps support demand. Well-kept examples should remain easier to sell than less trusted alternatives, especially if they have clean history and strong maintenance records.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.86/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Honda Pilot safe?

The 2021 Honda Pilot earns a five-star overall rating from NHTSA despite four-star ratings for front-passenger protection in a frontal impact. The IIHS gives it its highest “good” ratings except for an “acceptable” score for front passenger small overlap frontal-impact protection, and the standard headlights also earn an “acceptable” rating while higher trims earn a “good” rating.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Honda Sensing is standard and includes adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and lane-keeping assist. Starting with EX trim, you also get blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic warning. The system works, but it’s not especially smooth or refined, and the lane-departure warning’s steering-wheel wobble is more noticeable than subtle.

Should I buy a 2021 Honda Pilot or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 36.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 73.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.34% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.86/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2021 stands out for its practical interior, useful technology, and well-rounded family-friendly character.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $22,299, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $24,962 average.
• It offers tons of cargo space and an adult-friendly third row.

The bottom line: If you want the better-balanced choice, the 2021 is the stronger pick because it combines solid value, broad appeal, and a favorable price trend. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2020 is the smarter budget path, especially if you find one in good condition with the features you need.
