CarGurus Analysis: 2017 Ford Edge
overall

Summary
With 1,952 currently listed for sale and an average price of $12,541.00, 31.4% of 2017 Ford Edges for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2017 Ford Edge 4.43 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.5 / 10.
73.5% of 2017 Edge models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2017 Ford Edge stands out as a well-sized crossover that sits between the smaller Ford Escape and the larger Explorer and Flex. It offers seating for five passengers, ample cargo room, and storage cubbies galore, making it a practical choice for busy families. Rather than trying to be a rugged off-road vehicle, it is aimed at everyday use, with a manageable size and a family-friendly layout.
Stylistically, the Edge is sleek and attractive, though it is not especially dramatic or eye-catching. That restrained design may appeal to buyers who want a crossover that looks polished without being flashy. The overall impression is of a vehicle that focuses on usefulness, comfort, and space more than on making a bold visual statement.

I never had a problem with my 2017 Edge. At 65000 miles I got a notice from Ford that due to engine problems they needed to replace engine. Brought it in when they got the engine in stock. No charge. Then got a notice about the transmission. Brought it in. No charge. Car now has 95,000 miles. No problems so far except new battery which Aaa replaced for $85. mechanic told me Ford Edge is the best car Ford makes.

This car is a great car for someone who lives in a winter climate. It has great clearance and with snow tires can easily go through a foot of snow with the all-wheel-drive model with no worries! I like that has space for my kids and my stuff. I like that it’s comfortable and it’s not too big. I like that it’s easy on gas!

CarGurus tracks the prices of millions of used car listings every year. See how the average price of 2017 Ford Edge prices has changed over time.
See more price trendsHow much does the 2017 Ford Edge cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $12,462 |
| Year-Round Low | $12,273.88 |
| Year-Round High | $13,484.24 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $13,459 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −7.40% |
Prices have softened 7.40% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 1,920 listings available, which suggests solid inventory for shoppers comparing trims and conditions.
If you find a listing below $12,273.88, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2017 Ford Edge a good car?
Generally — 4.43/5. Expert testing rates it 7.5/10, and the model scores 8/10 across Performance, Form and function, and Safety.
Drivers consistently praise its powerful performance, spacious interior, and comfort. The review summary also points to well-appointed features and a smooth ride, which fits the Edge’s family-friendly layout and practical cargo space. In use, that makes it a strong fit if you want a midsize crossover that balances everyday comfort with useful versatility.
With 30.3% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have a decent chance of finding a competitively priced example.
Is the 2017 Ford Edge reliable?
Owners rate it 4.43/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.
The review summary also describes it as reliable for many owners, with a lot to offer for the price, even though some drivers reported early mechanical problems and engine issues. Expert testing reinforces that dependable feel with a composed ride, well-timed shifts, and a cabin that stays calm on the highway. The first scheduled maintenance visit is on the house, which helps lower early ownership friction.
For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that some examples may have had mechanical issues early in life, so condition and service history matter.
What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Ford Edge?
At 69.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage or lower-priced example. Focus on body condition, repair quality, and whether the features you want are actually present on the trim you’re shopping. Because some safety and convenience equipment is reserved for higher trims, it’s worth confirming the exact build before you buy.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base Edge SE comes with cloth seats, a 4.2-inch LCD screen, and a reversing camera, while higher trims add features like heated seats, a power liftgate, and more upscale materials.
- Powertrain: The lineup includes a 2.0-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder, a 3.5-liter V6, and a 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 with 315 horsepower and 350 lb-ft of torque; the base engine with FWD delivers the best fuel economy.
- Safety package: Available driver-assistance features include lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot warning, cross-traffic alert, and forward-collision warning, but many of these are reserved for higher trims.
- Infotainment: Base models use Sync with a 4.2-inch screen and one USB port, while Sync 3 brings an 8-inch touchscreen, wireless smartphone integration, and easier operation.
- Fuel efficiency: The Edge Sport is rated at 17 mpg city/24 highway, while the base engine with FWD is rated at 21 mpg city/29 highway.
Which 2017 Ford Edge trim should I buy?
The 2017 Ford Edge is offered in 4 trim levels: SE, SEL, Titanium, Sport.
Here's the short version:
- Base trim: The SE is the value entry point, but it lacks the richer tech and safety content found higher up the range.
- Sweet-spot trim: The SEL is the best balance for most shoppers because it adds meaningful comfort and convenience upgrades without jumping to the highest price tier.
- Premium/top trim: The Titanium is the most upscale choice, with standard leather seating, Sync 3, and a stronger audio setup.
- Off-road trim: The Sport is the performance-focused choice, but its higher running costs and optional feature creep make it less ideal for typical daily driving.
The safety package is strongest on higher trims, where you can get features like lane-keep assist, blind-spot warning, adaptive cruise control, and forward-collision warning.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Ford Edge?
The market looks moderately favorable if you’re selective and willing to compare condition carefully.
- Deal availability: 30.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,920 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 7.40% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 69.2% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $12,273.88, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2017 Ford Edge's resale value?
The current average of $12,462 sits slightly below last year's $13,459.
That softer pricing suggests the Edge has already absorbed some depreciation, which can help future sellers if they buy at the right number. A lower entry price today can leave more room for value retention later, especially if you choose a well-kept example with desirable equipment. Strong demand for a comfortable, practical crossover should help support resale interest over time.
Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.43/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2017 Ford Edge safe?
The National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA) gave it an overall five-star rating with only one four-star rating for rollover resistance. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) gave it a Good in all crash tests except for small front overlap, in which it received an Acceptable rating.
It earns a 8/10 safety score from our experts.
The available safety suite includes lane-keep assist, a 180-degree front camera with washer, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot warning, and forward-collision warning. Should I buy a 2017 Ford Edge or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2017 if:
- 30.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 69.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 7.40% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.43/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
- It offers a roomy, family-friendly cabin with strong performance and useful cargo space.
Consider the 2016 if:
- At $11,282, the 2016 costs less than the current year's $12,462 average.
- It adds a major infotainment upgrade and emphasizes performance and comfort.
The bottom line: The 2017 is the better all-around pick if you want a balanced crossover with strong comfort, useful space, and broad appeal. If your priority is saving money, the 2016 is the smarter alternative, especially if you find one in excellent condition with the features you want.
