Is the 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 a good car?

Generally — the 4.24/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction. Drivers commonly praise its power, comfortable cabin, spaciousness, and decent fuel efficiency, and the overview also frames it as a full-size pickup that can handle work duties without giving up everyday usability. That makes it a practical fit if you want a truck that balances capability with comfort and convenience. With 28.4% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.24/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback describes it as reliable, and owners also call out its dependable feel, comfortable features, and strong overall usefulness. The review summary suggests many drivers count on it as a full-size truck that delivers the basics well, even if some shoppers mention pricing concerns and a few missing features.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that condition and maintenance history matter a lot, so a well-kept example is far safer than one with unclear service records.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 1500?

At 62.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should run a vehicle history report before you commit, then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on body condition, signs of prior repair, and overall maintenance quality. Because this truck has a reputation for transmission trouble, pay close attention to how it shifts during a test drive and whether the service history supports the asking price.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 1500?

This is a moderate market, so you can be selective without expecting a deep buyer’s market.

• Deal availability: 28.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 6,732 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.56% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 62.4% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $20,840, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 1500's resale value?

The current average of $20,840 sits slightly below last year's $22,791.

That price movement suggests the truck has already absorbed a meaningful amount of depreciation, which can help future sellers if they buy at the right price. If you purchase near the lower end of the current range and keep the truck in strong condition, you may have a better chance of limiting your loss when it comes time to sell. Demand should also stay supported by the Silverado’s broad appeal as a capable, comfortable full-size pickup.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.24/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 28.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 62.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.56% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.24/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.

The bottom line: If you want a used full-size truck with strong utility, broad availability, and a price that has moved down from last year, the 2017 can make sense as long as you shop carefully and verify condition. If you are especially price-sensitive, a nearby year may also be worth comparing, but the 2017 stands out when you find a clean, well-maintained example at a competitive price.
