How much does the 2017 Chevrolet Cruze cost?

Prices have softened 5.03% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,805 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of options to compare.

Is the 2017 Chevrolet Cruze a good car?

Generally — 4.35/5 from owners and 6.67/10 from our experts point to a car that lands in the solid middle ground for used shoppers. The standout strength is Technology at 8/10.

Owners consistently praise the Cruze for its comfort, handling, excellent gas mileage, tech features, and modern design. That lines up with the Cruze’s hatchback setup, which adds utility and makes it a more flexible daily driver than a conventional compact sedan. If you want a small car that feels practical without giving up everyday comfort, that’s the core appeal here.

The market also shows 27.7% of listings as good or great deals, so you have room to shop selectively.

Is the 2017 Chevrolet Cruze reliable?

Owners rate it 4.35/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a car that feels dependable in everyday use, with repeated praise for comfort, gas mileage, and overall daily-driver usefulness. That kind of feedback suggests you can count on it for routine commuting and regular errands, especially if you value a trouble-free ownership experience over excitement.

The expert drive notes also frame it as a practical, well-rounded hatchback with useful utility and family-friendly features. Chevrolet’s Teen Driver mode adds another layer of everyday reassurance for households that share the car.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is making sure the specific car you choose has been maintained well and hasn’t picked up hidden wear from prior use.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Chevrolet Cruze?

At 53.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a careful inspection of bodywork, alignment, and signs of prior repair. Because the Cruze’s appeal depends so much on comfort and everyday usability, you’ll also want to focus on how the car feels on the road and whether all convenience and tech features work properly.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The hatchback is offered in LT and Premier trims, and the LT is the better starting point if you want the best balance of price and equipment. The lower trims on the sedan side omit basic features like cruise control, while the LT adds 16-inch alloys, a 6-speaker stereo with satellite radio, LED running lights, heated mirrors, and steering-wheel controls. The Premier adds leather, a heated steering wheel, 17-inch wheels, and extra interior lighting, but it also pushes the price up quickly.
• Powertrain: The Cruze uses a turbocharged 1.4-liter engine with 153 hp and 177 lb-ft of torque. It is fine for commuting and stop-and-go traffic, but it can feel short on passing power and highway merging strength. The manual transmission is said to offer a slight fuel-economy edge.
• Safety package: Teen Driver is standard across the lineup. The LT can be fitted with Driver Confidence Package, which adds blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert and rear parking sensors. The Premier needs Driver Confidence II Package for forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning and intervention, plus auto high beams.
• Infotainment: Standard Chevy MyLink uses an 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Navigation requires the Premier with the Sun and Sound with Navigation package. Wireless charging is available, but the charging slot may not fit larger phones well.
• Fuel efficiency: The automatic is rated at 31 mpg combined, 28 city, and 37 highway. The manual is said to offer a slight 1-mpg advantage.

Which 2017 Chevrolet Cruze trim should I buy?

The 2017 Chevrolet Cruze is offered in 2 trim levels: LT and Premier.

Here's the short version:

• LT: This is the best-value choice if you want the Cruze’s core strengths without stretching the budget too far. You get the useful hatchback setup, the 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a stronger feature set than the stripped-down lower trims on the sedan side. If you want the smartest balance of price and equipment, this is the trim to target.
• Premier: Choose this if you want the most comfort and convenience features, including leather, a heated steering wheel, 17-inch wheels, and more upscale interior touches. It also includes the Convenience Package standard, but it costs enough that you should only step up if those extras matter to you.

For safety, the LT can add Driver Confidence Package, while the Premier needs Driver Confidence II Package for the full set of advanced driver-assistance features.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Chevrolet Cruze?

The market looks selective rather than overheated, so you can shop with patience and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 27.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,805 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.03% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 53.1% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $9,152, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 Chevrolet Cruze's resale value?

The current average of $9,152 sits slightly below last year's $9,637.

That softer pricing suggests the Cruze has already absorbed some of its near-term depreciation, which can help future resale stability if you buy at the right price. For a future seller, that means your biggest advantage will come from choosing a clean, well-kept example now rather than paying too much for one with questionable history.

The Cruze’s practical hatchback body style and strong owner satisfaction can help keep demand steady among shoppers who want an efficient daily driver. If you buy carefully and maintain it well, you should be in a better position when it’s time to sell.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.35/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2017 Chevrolet Cruze safe?

The Cruze recently lost its five-star rating from NHTSA, with four-star scores in all tests barring a five-star score in the frontal crash test.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Chevrolet’s Teen Driver mode is standard, and the Cruze also includes a strong airbag setup with full-length side curtain, knee, and front and rear side airbags. The LT can add blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert and rear parking sensors through the Driver Confidence Package, while the Premier needs Driver Confidence II Package for forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning and intervention, plus auto high beams.

The IIHS gave the Cruze its top Good rating in Moderate Overlap Front and Side Impact testing. One caveat is that earlier Cruze models had a Marginal result in the Small Overlap front test, though that test was not performed on this model year.

Should I buy a 2017 Chevrolet Cruze or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 27.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 53.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.03% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.35/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• Chevy added a sloping rear hatch and standard Teen Driver mode for extra utility and family-friendly appeal.

Consider the 2016 if:

• At $8,171, the 2016 costs less than the current year's $9,152 average.
• It offers a fresh second-generation take with strong real-world practicality.

Consider the 2018 if:

• At $9,947, the 2018 costs more than the current year's $9,152 average.
• It adds diesel versions for shoppers who want that powertrain choice.

The bottom line: If you want the most balanced mix of price, utility, and modern tech, the 2017 is the one to target. If you’re focused on saving money, the 2016 is the better value play, while the 2018 makes sense only if you specifically want the added diesel option and are willing to pay more for it.
