CarGurus Analysis: 2017 Chevrolet Camaro
overall

Summary
With 173 currently listed for sale near Orlando, FL and an average price of $14,379, 9.8% of 2017 Chevrolet Camaros for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2017 Chevrolet Camaro 4.74 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it an 8.17 / 10.
66.5% of 2017 Camaro models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2017 Chevrolet Camaro stands out as a car that looks and sounds like a traditional American muscle car, yet delivers a driving experience that goes beyond that image. The test-drive description gives it a vivid, aggressive personality, and the summary reinforces that this is a car built for excitement rather than subtlety. It is also clearly not trying to be a roomy everyday coupe, since the source notes that space constraints limit you to just one passenger.
That focus on performance and drama is a big part of the Camaro’s appeal. Owners generally praise its stunning looks, impressive power, thrilling performance, fast acceleration, and handling, which helps explain why it attracts buyers who want a car that feels special from behind the wheel. At the same time, the tradeoffs are easy to see: limited cargo space, a back seat that is not especially practical, and overall visibility that some owners do not like. For shoppers who value style and driving excitement more than utility, those compromises may be acceptable.

The 2SS has everything you could want as far as extra features. Beautiful leather interior, ambient lighting, heated & cooled seats, navigation, heads up display. The visibility in a Camaro takes some getting used to and there’s not much of a backseat. Other than that, set up like a race car with no extra storage or door pockets. It’s a beautiful car. This one is a 50th anniversary edition with the Fifty emblem on the steering wheel. This isn’t the car you want for good gas mileage with the V8. It sounds good with the dual exhaust. This car is prettier in person because the carbon fiber panels don’t show up well in photos.

Final price was far from ad listing. Beautiful car. 2017 to 2021 excellent convertibles. Love red accent interiors. Its only a Camaro for me, nothing else.

|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $24,412 |
| Year-Round Low | $21,937 |
| Year-Round High | $24,946 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $23,694 |
| Change vs. Last Year | +3.03% |
Prices are up 3.03% year-over-year — a sign of continued demand for this model year.
There are 1,272 listings available, which gives you a decent amount of inventory to compare before you buy.
Is the 2017 Chevrolet Camaro a good car?
Yes — you’re looking at a 4.74/5 user rating, and the expert rating is 8.17/10. The standout strength is Performance at 10/10.
Owners consistently praise the Camaro’s stunning looks, impressive power, thrilling performance, fast acceleration, and handling. The overview also makes clear that this is a car for excitement rather than everyday practicality, so it fits you best if you want a dramatic driving experience more than roomy utility.
The market still shows 29.2% of listings as good or great deals, which suggests there are still worthwhile opportunities if you shop carefully.
Is the 2017 Chevrolet Camaro reliable?
Owners rate it 4.74/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback points to a car that many drivers feel good about living with over time, especially because they praise its power, performance, and handling while also describing it as a car they enjoy owning. The expert driving notes also reinforce a durable, confidence-inspiring character through the car’s strong chassis control, heavy-duty cooling, and track-focused hardware.
The cost-effectiveness notes add that the Camaro’s value equation can be compelling for the performance you get, especially when you compare it with pricier alternatives. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that the car’s performance focus can bring higher running costs and more demanding upkeep than a more ordinary coupe.
What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Chevrolet Camaro?
At 57.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a car that may have been driven hard. Focus on body condition, signs of prior repair, and whether the car’s performance hardware and interior show wear consistent with how it was used.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The SS 1LE stands out for its more aggressive appearance, matte-finish hood, black splitter, black mirrors, black rear lip spoiler, and Satin Graphite wheels, while the interior is described as more restrained but well executed. It suits you if you want the most dramatic, track-oriented presentation.
- Powertrain: The SS 1LE uses a 6.2-liter V8 with 455 horsepower and 455 pound-feet of torque, and the package is also described as available with V6 and V8 Camaro configurations. It is a manual-only setup, so it fits you best if you want a more involved driving experience.
- Safety package: Teen Driver is the named safety feature, and it lets you set vehicle attributes tied to a key fob while generating a driving report. Standard equipment includes a reversing camera, while blind-spot warning with lane-change assist, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear parking-assist sensors are optional.
- Infotainment: The Camaro uses MyLink with an 8-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and OnStar services with a three-month trial. It also includes a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot, automatic crash response, crisis assist, and stolen-vehicle assistance.
- Fuel efficiency: The SS 1LE is rated at 19 mpg in combined driving, and the cost-effectiveness content says the LS-based 1LE setup should return 20 mpg combined.
Which 2017 Chevrolet Camaro trim should I buy?
The 2017 Chevrolet Camaro is offered in 1 trim level: SS 1LE.
Here's the short version:
The SS 1LE: This is the clear choice if you want the most focused version described in the data. It adds magnetic ride control, upgraded cooling, staggered-width performance tires, Brembo brakes, a heads-up display, and the Performance Data Recorder, so it’s the best-value pick for you if track-day capability matters more than daily comfort.
The safety package note is simple: Teen Driver is included, while blind-spot warning with lane-change assist, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear parking-assist sensors remain optional.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Chevrolet Camaro?
This is a seller’s market, so you should act selectively and be ready to move when a strong listing appears.
- Deal availability: 29.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,272 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices are up 3.03% year-over-year.
- Clean inventory: 57.5% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $21,937, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2017 Chevrolet Camaro's resale value?
The current average of $24,412 sits slightly above last year's $23,694.
That upward move suggests the Camaro is holding buyer interest well enough to support pricing. If you own one, that can help you when it’s time to sell, especially if your car has clean history and strong condition.
The market also shows enough demand to keep well-priced examples moving, which matters if you plan to trade in or list privately. Cars with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.74/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2017 Chevrolet Camaro safe?
The Camaro earns a five-star rating from the federal government for 4-cylinder and V6 models only, and it gets an Acceptable roof-strength result from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.
It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.
Teen Driver is the named safety system, and it lets you set driving parameters tied to a specific key fob while generating a report on how the car was driven. A reversing camera is standard, and blind-spot warning with lane-change assist, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear parking-assist sensors are available.
The main caveat is that the Camaro does not include automatic emergency braking or automatic steering assistance, so you should not expect the kind of active safety tech found in some newer rivals.
Should I buy a 2017 Chevrolet Camaro or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2017 if:
- 29.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 57.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices are up 3.03% year-over-year.
- Owners rate it 4.74/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The expert summary emphasizes the Camaro’s dramatic, performance-first personality and its one-passenger track-day focus.
Consider the 2016 if:
- At $23,244, the 2016 costs less than the current year's $24,412 average.
- It’s a completely redesigned Camaro with updated looks, a better interior, and modernized infotainment.
The bottom line: If you want the stronger ownership signal and are shopping the current market carefully, the 2017 is the better target. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2016 is the more budget-friendly path and still gives you the redesigned Camaro experience.
