CarGurus Analysis: 2017 Chevrolet Camaro
overall

Summary
With 225 currently listed for sale near Charlotte, NC and an average price of $30,483, 22.7% of 2017 Chevrolet Camaros for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2017 Chevrolet Camaro 4.74 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it an 8.17 / 10.
61.8% of 2017 Camaro models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2017 Chevrolet Camaro stands out as a car that looks and sounds like a traditional American muscle car, yet delivers a driving experience that goes beyond that image. The test-drive description gives it a vivid, aggressive personality, and the summary reinforces that this is a car built for excitement rather than subtlety. It is also clearly not trying to be a roomy everyday coupe, since the source notes that space constraints limit you to just one passenger.
That focus on performance and drama is a big part of the Camaro’s appeal. Owners generally praise its stunning looks, impressive power, thrilling performance, fast acceleration, and handling, which helps explain why it attracts buyers who want a car that feels special from behind the wheel. At the same time, the tradeoffs are easy to see: limited cargo space, a back seat that is not especially practical, and overall visibility that some owners do not like. For shoppers who value style and driving excitement more than utility, those compromises may be acceptable.

The 2SS has everything you could want as far as extra features. Beautiful leather interior, ambient lighting, heated & cooled seats, navigation, heads up display. The visibility in a Camaro takes some getting used to and there’s not much of a backseat. Other than that, set up like a race car with no extra storage or door pockets. It’s a beautiful car. This one is a 50th anniversary edition with the Fifty emblem on the steering wheel. This isn’t the car you want for good gas mileage with the V8. It sounds good with the dual exhaust. This car is prettier in person because the carbon fiber panels don’t show up well in photos.

Final price was far from ad listing. Beautiful car. 2017 to 2021 excellent convertibles. Love red accent interiors. Its only a Camaro for me, nothing else.

|---|---|

| Year-Round Low | $21,937 |
| Year-Round High | $24,946 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $23,821 |
| Change vs. Last Year | +1.18% |
Prices are up 1.18% year-over-year — a sign of continued demand for this model year.
There are 1,278 listings available, which gives you a meaningful amount of inventory to compare.
Is the 2017 Chevrolet Camaro a good car?
Yes — you’re looking at a 4.74/5 user-rated car with an 8.17/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Performance at 10/10.
Owners consistently praise its stunning looks, impressive power, thrilling performance, fast acceleration, and handling. That lines up with the Camaro’s use case as a car built for excitement rather than everyday practicality, especially if you care more about driving drama than cabin space. The market also shows 29.4% good or great deals, which suggests there are still attractive opportunities if you shop carefully.
Is the 2017 Chevrolet Camaro reliable?
Owners rate it 4.74/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback points to a car people can count on for the qualities they bought it for: strong performance, smooth ride, and advanced technology. The expert drive notes also emphasize that the Camaro’s track-focused hardware is built to keep the car composed under hard use, with heavy-duty cooling and upgraded braking helping support dependable performance. On the ownership side, the available maintenance perk language suggests some versions can soften early service costs.
For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about basic durability and more about whether the car has been driven hard, modified, or neglected.
What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Chevrolet Camaro?
At 57.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has performance equipment or signs of track use. Focus on body condition, tire wear, brake wear, and any evidence of hard driving, since this model’s appeal often comes from enthusiastic ownership. It’s also worth checking that the car’s features and trim equipment match the listing, because some desirable items are not standard on every version.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The SS 1LE adds a matte-finish hood, black exterior accents, Satin Graphite wheels, and a more aggressive appearance than the standard car, while also improving outward visibility through its hood design. It suits you best if you want the most focused driving setup and can live with the tradeoffs.
- Powertrain: The SS 1LE uses a 6.2-liter V8 with 455 horsepower and 455 pound-feet of torque, and the package is also available with LS or LT models equipped with a V6. It is aimed at drivers who want serious performance rather than relaxed commuting.
- Safety package: Teen Driver is included, and it lets you set vehicle attributes for younger drivers and review a driving report afterward. Available driver aids include blind-spot warning with lane-change assist, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear parking-assist sensors.
- Infotainment: The Camaro uses MyLink with an 8-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and OnStar services with a three-month initial trial. It also includes a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot, automatic crash response, crisis assist, and stolen-vehicle assistance.
- Fuel efficiency: The SS 1LE is rated at 19 mpg in combined driving, and the cost-effectiveness discussion says the LS with the 1LE package should return 20 mpg combined.
Which 2017 Chevrolet Camaro trim should I buy?
The 2017 Chevrolet Camaro is offered in 1 trim level: LS.
Here's the short version:
LS: This is the entry point, and it gives you the Camaro experience at the lowest starting price mentioned in the source. It makes the most sense if you want the styling and performance character without paying for the more specialized hardware described in the test vehicle.
The safety content notes that the Camaro does not include automatic emergency braking or automatic steering assistance, so you should not expect those features on this model.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Chevrolet Camaro?
This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.
- Deal availability: 29.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,278 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices are up 1.18% year-over-year.
- Clean inventory: 57.7% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $21,937, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2017 Chevrolet Camaro's resale value?
The current average of $24,101 sits slightly above last year's $23,821.
That modest increase suggests the Camaro has held value reasonably well in the near term. For a future seller, that kind of steady pricing can be a positive sign because it points to ongoing buyer interest rather than a sharp drop in demand. The model’s strong enthusiast appeal and high owner satisfaction should help keep it relevant in the used market.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.74/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2017 Chevrolet Camaro safe?
The Camaro earns a five-star rating from the federal government, though that applies to the 4-cylinder and V6 models only, and it gets Acceptable roof strength from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety rather than the top mark.
It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.
The safety equipment includes Teen Driver, which lets you set driving parameters for younger drivers and review a report of how the car was driven. Standard equipment includes a reversing camera, while blind-spot warning with lane-change assist, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear parking-assist sensors are available. The lack of automatic emergency braking or automatic steering assistance is a meaningful limitation if you want the latest active-safety tech.
Should I buy a 2017 Chevrolet Camaro or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2017 if:
- 29.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 57.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices are up 1.18% year-over-year.
- Owners rate it 4.74/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The expert summary emphasizes the Camaro’s identity as a performance-focused, attention-grabbing sports car with serious track-day character.
Consider the 2016 if:
- At $23,227, the 2016 costs less than the current year's $24,101 average.
- It is a completely redesigned Camaro with updated looks, a better interior, and newer infotainment tech.
The bottom line: If you want the stronger current-market balance of price, inventory, and enthusiast appeal, the 2017 is the better default choice. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2016 is the smarter value play, especially if you want the redesigned-car feel for a lower entry price.
