How much does the 2017 BMW 3 Series cost?

Prices have softened 5.88% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,278 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of options to compare.

Is the 2017 BMW 3 Series a good car?

Generally — the 4.22/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction. Drivers consistently praise its style, performance, and comfort, and they also highlight the exceptional handling that helps the car feel especially engaging. The overview also makes clear that it works well as a compact luxury sedan for buyers who want sharp driving dynamics, a polished cabin, and a broad mix of powertrain choices. With 34.5% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have a decent chance of finding value if you shop carefully.

Is the 2017 BMW 3 Series reliable?

Owners rate it 4.22/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback suggests the car can be dependable when it has been well maintained, and it also describes the model as a great value in that condition. At the same time, some owners mention potential engine issues, so reliability depends heavily on how the car was cared for. For used buyers, that means long-term ownership risk is manageable, but only if you verify maintenance history and avoid neglected examples.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 BMW 3 Series?

At 54.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and confirm whether any damage was structural or cosmetic. Then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially on cars with higher mileage or incomplete service records. Focus on overall condition, maintenance consistency, and any signs of unresolved engine or electrical concerns before you commit.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 BMW 3 Series?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.

• Deal availability: 34.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,278 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.88% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 54.9% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $13,470, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 BMW 3 Series's resale value?

The current average of $13,554 sits slightly below last year's $14,401.

That softer pricing suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable entry point. For future resale, the key will be how well the car is maintained and documented, since buyers tend to pay more for examples with clear service history and fewer condition concerns. If the market stays steady, a well-kept car should remain easier to move than one with gaps in maintenance or accident history.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.22/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2017 BMW 3 Series or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 34.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 54.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.88% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.22/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2016 if:

• At $11,782, the 2016 costs less than the current year's $13,554 average.
• It puts driving enjoyment front and center.

The bottom line: If you want the newer year with stronger market support and a broad set of listings, the 2017 is the better default choice. If your priority is spending less up front and you value the earlier model’s driver-focused character, the 2016 is the smarter budget alternative.
