CarGurus Analysis: 2017 Acura MDX

Summary
With 1,100 currently listed for sale and an average price of $17,593.00, 32.1% of 2017 Acura MDXs for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2017 Acura MDX 4.74 / 5 stars.
63.3% of 2017 MDX models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2017 Acura MDX stands out as a three-row luxury SUV that blends family usefulness with a more polished, upscale feel than many rivals. It was part of the third generation, which brought a new dual-screen infotainment setup, a re-engineered 3.5-liter V6 with 290 horsepower, and a stronger emphasis on fuel economy. Acura also made front-wheel drive available for the first time, and the MDX could be equipped with packages rather than traditional trims, giving buyers a way to tailor the vehicle’s features and equipment.
What makes the 2017 model especially notable is the refresh that arrived that year. Acura binned the controversial grille, made all of the MDX’s formerly optional safety systems standard, and introduced the MDX Sport Hybrid with a 3.0-liter V6 and a trio of electric motors. That hybrid was rated at 321 system horsepower and could return up to 27 mpg combined and 26 mpg in city driving, making it both quicker and more efficient than the standard model. The MDX also remained comfortable and well equipped, with features such as ventilated seats becoming more common during this generation.
There are tradeoffs, though. The infotainment system was not especially easy to use, and the third-generation MDX lost some interior room compared with the previous version, including a smaller second row and less cargo space overall. Even so, the 2017 Acura MDX remains appealing for buyers who want a practical luxury SUV with a strong feature set, solid efficiency, and the added rarity of a hybrid option.

This car, the Acura MDX is a total surprise to me. The features are sophisticated and just the right amount of technology and swag that makes it an eye catching bang for my bucks. I came out of a Tahoe with great features and good looks that turned heads and attracted inquiries. My MDX is getting so many compliments and attention from my friends, family, and group members because the maintenance record was impressive and it has the look of luxury; it's a stylish vehicle, that boasts reliability second only to Toyota Lexus. I enjoy driving the MDX and the only thing missing is free oil changes.

The Acura MDX SH-AWD has many features that are excellent. It would be nice if all levels had navigation, but not really needed.

How much does the 2017 Acura MDX cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $17,658 |
| Year-Round Low | $17,347.73 |
| Year-Round High | $18,928.97 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $18,808 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −6.11% |
Prices have softened 6.11% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 1,129 listings available, which suggests you have a meaningful amount of inventory to compare.
If you find a listing below $17,347.73, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2017 Acura MDX a good car?
Yes — the 2017 Acura MDX earns a 4.74/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. Owners consistently praise its luxury feel, spacious interior, and safety features, and many also like the smooth ride. For you, that makes it a strong fit if you want a three-row luxury SUV that balances family usefulness with an upscale cabin. With 27.8% of listings marked as good or great deals, there are still some attractive opportunities if you shop carefully.
Is the 2017 Acura MDX reliable?
Owners rate it 4.74/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback also points to a dependable ownership experience, with praise for the smooth ride and the overall sense of comfort and usefulness. That said, the infotainment system and interior finishes come up as recurring frustrations, so reliability here is as much about day-to-day livability as it is about mechanical confidence. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is ending up with a well-kept SUV that still feels frustrating to live with if the technology or trim condition has aged poorly.
What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Acura MDX?
At 63.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report so you can separate clean examples from ones with past damage. After that, prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on body condition, panel alignment, and signs of uneven wear. Because this model is often bought for family use, you should also pay close attention to interior condition, especially the seats, controls, and infotainment system.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Acura MDX?
This looks like a moderate market, so you can buy now if the right listing appears, but you should still be selective.
- Deal availability: 27.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,129 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.11% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 63.1% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $17,347.73, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2017 Acura MDX's resale value?
The current average of $17,658 sits slightly below last year's $18,808.
That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable entry point. For a future seller, it also means you should expect resale value to depend heavily on condition, mileage, and how well the vehicle has been maintained. Well-kept examples should still draw interest because the MDX has broad appeal as a practical luxury SUV.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.74/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2017 Acura MDX or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2017 if:
- 27.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 63.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.11% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.74/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2016 if:
- At $14,673, the 2016 costs less than the current year's $17,658 average.
- It emphasizes safety, athleticism, and refinement.
The bottom line: You should lean toward the 2017 if you want the stronger overall value proposition, especially with softer pricing and solid owner satisfaction. If your priority is spending less upfront, the 2016 is the better budget-conscious path, but you should weigh that against the 2017's broader appeal and market momentum.
