Is the 2016 Volkswagen Tiguan a good car?

Generally — the 2016 Volkswagen Tiguan earns a 4.4/5 user rating, which points to solid owner satisfaction. Owners consistently praise its driving experience, interior quality, and value for the price, and many also highlight its smooth ride and good fuel economy. The Tiguan’s appeal is strongest if you want a compact SUV that feels a little more polished and driver-focused, with a roomy cabin and a clear path to more upscale features. Is the 2016 Volkswagen Tiguan reliable?

Owners rate it 4.4/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owners describe the Tiguan as dependable in everyday use when it’s been cared for properly, and the feedback points to a vehicle many people feel comfortable living with over time. At the same time, the model’s mixed reliability reputation means you should pay close attention to maintenance history and any signs of trouble before you commit. For used buyers, that means long-term ownership risk is manageable only if you choose carefully and verify condition thoroughly.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Volkswagen Tiguan?

At 57.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and confirm whether any reported damage lines up with the seller’s disclosure. Put inspection priority on the areas owners commonly worry about, and make sure the car has been maintained consistently. Focus on overall condition, because a clean-looking listing is not enough if the history or mechanical health raises questions.

The model’s current pricing trend also gives you a clearer benchmark for judging whether a used listing is fairly priced today.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.4/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2016 Volkswagen Tiguan or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 31.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 57.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.30% compared with last year.

The bottom line: The 2016 is a sensible choice if you want the Tiguan’s polished driving feel, roomy cabin, and current softer pricing.
