Has all the bells and whistles important to a grandmother hauling grandkids to ballgames and everything in between. Smooth as a cadillac ride, great power, and I love the auto liftgate and back up camera. Third row seats are handy to have and fold down flat. Toyota has a great reputation for lasting a long time, and I like to keep my cars many years. Drove a GMC Acadia prior to this car, and I prefer the Toyota.

Coming from a 13 Tucson that blew up on us without warning, this 2016 Toyota Highlander Limited is absolutely stunning. We are very pleased with the fit and finish on the Limited trim, the features are amazing, every single option. It rides so smooth and so quiet, has great power, great fuel economy. It has sharp lines outside, looks great inside, Toyota really did a great job with this vehicle. We are proud to be new members of the Toyota family. We hope for decades of good ownership within Toyota.

Owners rate it 4.93/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback repeatedly emphasizes reliability, and it also describes the Highlander as dependable and trouble-free in everyday use. That kind of long-term confidence matters if you want a used SUV you can count on for family duty and regular commuting. For used buyers, the main ownership risk is less about the model's reputation and more about finding one with clean maintenance and condition history.
What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Toyota Highlander?
At 60.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report so you can separate clean examples from those with prior damage. After that, prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially on body condition, panel alignment, and signs of uneven wear. Because this model is often bought for family use, you should also pay close attention to interior condition, cargo-area wear, and whether the features you want are actually present.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Toyota Highlander?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer's market, so you can shop with some leverage if you stay disciplined.

- Price trend: Prices have softened 3.77% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 60.8% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $17,931.41, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2016 Toyota Highlander's resale value?
The current average of $18,480 sits slightly below last year's $19,204.
That softer pricing suggests the market has become a bit more favorable for buyers, which can also affect what you recover later as a seller. If you buy well now, you may have less downside risk than someone who paid closer to last year's average. Strong owner satisfaction can help support demand when it's time to resell, especially for a family SUV with a reputation for comfort and reliability.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.93/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2016 Toyota Highlander or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2016 if:
- 32.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 60.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 3.77% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.93/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2017 if:
- At $20,472, the 2017 costs more than the current year's $18,480 average.
- It adds an updated V6, an 8-speed automatic, and standard Toyota Safety Sense.
The bottom line: If you want the better value today, the 2016 is the stronger starting point because pricing has eased and owner satisfaction is excellent. If you can stretch for the 2017, you get meaningful upgrades in performance and safety tech, which may be worth the extra cost for some buyers. For price-sensitive shoppers, the 2016 remains the more compelling buy; for shoppers prioritizing newer features, the 2017 is the better alternative.
