Is the 2016 Subaru Legacy a good car?

Yes — the 2016 Subaru Legacy earns a 5/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. It stands out as a midsize sedan that makes all-wheel drive standard, and it is aimed at buyers who want everyday practicality with extra traction and a strong safety focus. The cabin also comes well equipped for the class, with features like Bluetooth streaming, USB and aux inputs, a backup camera, and available upgrades such as heated seats and advanced driver aids. With 28.2% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have a meaningful chance to find a competitive offer.

Is the 2016 Subaru Legacy reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The Legacy’s appeal centers on comfort, standard safety features, and all-wheel drive, which makes it a reassuring choice for daily use and poor-weather driving. Its straightforward mechanical setup and practical equipment list support that reputation.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is finding a car that has been neglected or driven hard, so condition and maintenance history matter a lot.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Subaru Legacy?

At 58% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should run a vehicle history report on any car you’re seriously considering and confirm whether it has had collision repairs, title issues, or repeated ownership changes. A pre-purchase inspection should focus on bodywork quality, alignment, tire wear, and signs of uneven panel gaps or paint mismatch.

Because this model is valued for comfort and all-weather confidence, pay close attention to how the cabin, suspension, and drivetrain feel during a test drive.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Subaru Legacy?

This is a moderate market, so you can shop selectively without expecting every listing to be a bargain.

• Deal availability: 28.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 641 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 1.82% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 58.0% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $11,356, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 Subaru Legacy's resale value?

The current average of $11,825 sits slightly below last year's $12,044.

That decline suggests the market has eased a bit, which can work against you if you plan to sell soon. If you buy now, you should expect resale value to depend heavily on condition, mileage, and how well the car has been maintained.

Because the Legacy has a clear identity as a practical, safety-focused all-wheel-drive sedan, well-kept examples should remain appealing to shoppers who want that formula. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2016 Subaru Legacy or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 28.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 58% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 1.82% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $10,659, the 2015 costs less than the current year's $11,825 average.
• It offers a bigger, more spacious cabin.

The bottom line: You should lean toward the 2016 if you want the stronger current-market mix of pricing, inventory, and owner satisfaction. If your priority is spending less upfront, the 2015 is the better value play, especially if you find one in excellent condition.
