Why it stands out
The 2016 Subaru Impreza stands out as a practical all-weather compact that still puts driving confidence first. Its standard all-wheel drive gives it an advantage in poor conditions, and the car’s appeal is rooted in being an affordable, practical way to have fun behind the wheel. That balance is part of what makes the Impreza name distinctive: it is not just about utility, but about delivering a usable daily driver with a more engaging character than many rivals.
For buyers, the 2016 Impreza’s strengths are easy to understand. It offers a rough ride in daily driving, and its interior materials are described as cheap, but those drawbacks are offset by the car’s capability and versatility. The model’s reputation for serious performance on gravel and pavement, along with its day-to-day practicality, helps explain why it remains appealing to shoppers who want a compact car that can handle more than just commuting.

Reviewed a 2016 Subaru Impreza on Feb 16, 2024
Drives great. Lots of space. l needed an all-wheel drive for where I live. Good price because it had a rear-end collision which the dealer was upfront with. I also had a photo of the damage. It was fixed beautifully. One thing, the rear camera doesnt work and also the rear defrost. Need to get that fixed. Very low mileage, 28000 km. All in all, it is a great car for a great price.

How much does the 2016 Subaru Impreza cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $10,847 |
| Year-Round Low | $10,349.44 |
| Year-Round High | $11,356.32 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $11,353 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −4.46% |
Prices have softened 4.46% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 746 listings available, which suggests a healthy amount of inventory to compare.
If you find a listing below $10,349.44, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2016 Subaru Impreza a good car?
Yes — the 5/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction. The 2016 Subaru Impreza stands out as a practical all-weather compact that still puts driving confidence first, with standard all-wheel drive giving it an edge in poor conditions. Its appeal is rooted in being an affordable, practical way to have fun behind the wheel, and it works well if you want a usable daily driver with a more engaging character than many rivals. 21.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2016 Subaru Impreza reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction. The 2016 Subaru Impreza is described as a practical, capable compact with serious performance on gravel and pavement, and its day-to-day versatility is a major part of its appeal. Its rough ride and cheap-feeling interior materials are the main tradeoffs, but the core ownership experience centers on confidence and usefulness. For used buyers, the bigger long-term risk is finding a car whose condition has been worn down by hard use rather than one that lacks capability.
What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Subaru Impreza?
At 57.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report so you can separate clean examples from cars with prior damage. Put inspection priority on bodywork, alignment, and signs of uneven wear, since those can reveal whether past incidents affected the car’s condition. Focus on overall condition rather than just mileage, because a practical all-weather compact can hide hard use if it has been driven through rough conditions.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Subaru Impreza?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully without expecting every listing to be a bargain.
- Deal availability: 21.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 746 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 4.46% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 57.2% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $10,349.44, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2016 Subaru Impreza's resale value?
The current average of $10,847 sits slightly below last year's $11,353.
That softer pricing suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable entry point. For a future seller, that also means resale value may depend more on condition, mileage, and how well the car has been maintained. If you buy well and keep the car clean, you give yourself a better chance of limiting depreciation pressure later.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2016 Subaru Impreza or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2016 if:
- 21.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 57.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 4.46% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2015 if:
- At $10,234, the 2015 costs less than the current year's $10,847 average.
- It adds a mid-cycle refresh with better cabin tech and a quieter feel.
Consider the 2017 if:
- At $12,059, the 2017 costs more than the current year's $10,847 average.
- It brings standard all-wheel drive to a broader, more practical package.
The bottom line:
The 2016 is the best fit if you want the strongest mix of value, confidence, and everyday versatility. If you are more price-sensitive, the 2015 is the better budget path, while the 2017 makes sense if you want to spend more for a newer take on the same core formula.
