Used 2016 Nissan Pathfinder for Sale nearBirmingham, AL

How much does the 2016 Nissan Pathfinder cost?

Prices have softened 12.09% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 773 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2016 Nissan Pathfinder a good car?

Yes — the 2016 Nissan Pathfinder earns a 5/5 user rating and a 6.5/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Form and function at 10/10.

Owners consistently praise the spacious interior, smooth driving experience, comfort, power, and cargo space, especially when you need the third row. In practical terms, that makes it a strong fit if you want a family-sized SUV that is easy to live with and useful for daily hauling.

At the same time, the Pathfinder is described as functional rather than memorable, so you should expect a vehicle that covers the basics well instead of one that feels especially distinctive. Even so, the combination of roominess and everyday comfort helps it make sense for family use.

There are 27.8% good or great deals in the market, which suggests decent value opportunities if you shop carefully.

Is the 2016 Nissan Pathfinder reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience for many drivers, with repeated praise for the SUV’s comfort, space, and everyday usability. The expert evaluation also describes the 3.5-liter V6 as dependable and powerful, which supports the impression that the core drivetrain is built for long-term use.

The Pathfinder also benefits from a maintenance perk in the expert notes: the first scheduled maintenance visit is on the house.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that condition and maintenance history matter a lot, so a careful inspection and records review are important before you commit.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Nissan Pathfinder?

At 55.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually attractive. Focus on signs of prior body damage, uneven panel gaps, and any evidence that the SUV has been repaired after a collision.

Pay close attention to how the vehicle presents overall, since the Pathfinder’s value depends heavily on condition and equipment level. If you’re shopping a family hauler, make sure the features you care about are actually present on the specific listing.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The basic S trim level is front-wheel drive, while the SV, SL, and Platinum add equipment and refinement; the SL also gets Tech and Premium sub-trim designations. The base setup is the most stripped-down, so feature gaps matter if you want a more modern-feeling cabin.
• Powertrain: The Pathfinder uses a single 3.5-liter V6 with 260 horsepower and a CVT, with optional 4WD. It’s described as dependable and powerful, and the 4WD setup adds an automatic mode and a lock mode.
• Safety package: The available safety equipment includes a reversing camera with rear cross-traffic alert, blind-spot warning, a 360-degree top-down monitor, and Easy Fill Tire Alert. It does not offer drowsy-driver detection, lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist, forward-collision warning, or automatic emergency braking.
• Infotainment: The system lacks natural voice recognition, smartphone projection, and NissanConnect with Mobile Apps. It also does not include Wi-Fi, text messaging support, automatic collision notification, or roadside-assistance connectivity.
• Fuel efficiency: The expert notes cite 20.2 mpg on a test loop, with an EPA estimate of 21 mpg in combined driving.

Which 2016 Nissan Pathfinder trim should I buy?

The 2016 Nissan Pathfinder is offered in 4 trim levels: S, SV, SL, Platinum.

Here's the short version:

• S: This is the entry point, and it gives you the Pathfinder’s core space and V6 power at the lowest price. It makes sense if you mainly want the basics and are willing to live without the nicer cabin and convenience upgrades.
• SV: This is the trim to look at if you want a better balance of equipment and value without jumping all the way to the top. It should suit most shoppers who want a family SUV with a little more comfort than the base model.
• SL: This is the best-value choice if you want a more upscale feel, and the Tech and Premium sub-trim designations make it the most appealing middle ground. It’s the trim most likely to satisfy you if you want a nicer daily driver without paying for the top model.
• Platinum: This is the most fully equipped version, and it’s the one to choose if you want the most features and are willing to pay for them. It suits you best if you want the Pathfinder at its most premium.

The safety content notes that the Pathfinder loses its Top Safety Pick designation because it cannot be equipped with forward-collision warning or automatic emergency braking.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Nissan Pathfinder?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.

• Deal availability: 27.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 773 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.09% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 55.4% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $9,216, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 Nissan Pathfinder's resale value?

The current average of $9,216 sits slightly below last year's $10,483.

That decline suggests the Pathfinder has softened in the used market, which can work against you if you’re thinking about future trade-in value. If prices continue to drift lower, sellers may need to be more competitive to attract buyers.

On the other hand, a lower entry price can help keep demand steady among shoppers looking for a roomy family SUV. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2016 Nissan Pathfinder safe?

The 2016 Nissan Pathfinder earns a Top Safety Pick designation from IIHS and a five-star overall crash-test rating from NHTSA.

It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

The Pathfinder comes with a reversing camera with rear cross-traffic alert, blind-spot warning, a 360-degree top-down monitor, and Easy Fill Tire Alert. Those features help with visibility and everyday maneuvering, but the safety package is limited by the absence of drowsy-driver detection, lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist, forward-collision warning, and automatic emergency braking.

A key caveat is that the Pathfinder loses its Top Safety Pick designation because it cannot be equipped with forward-collision warning or automatic emergency braking.

Should I buy a 2016 Nissan Pathfinder or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 27.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 55.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.09% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• Expert summary: It’s a functional but forgettable family-sized crossover SUV.

Consider the 2017 if:

• At $10,643, the 2017 costs more than the current year's $9,216 average.
• It adds a broader family-hauling focus with all-wheel-drive capability.

The bottom line: If you want the lower price and don’t mind a more basic-feeling SUV, the 2016 is the easier buy. If you can stretch your budget and want the next year’s broader appeal, the 2017 is the better alternative.

How does the 2016 Nissan Pathfinder compare to the 2016 Honda Pilot?

Our experts score the 2016 Nissan Pathfinder 6.5/10 and the 2016 Honda Pilot 7.3/10. The Pathfinder is the cheaper buy by a wide margin, and it also has a slightly better city fuel-economy figure. The Pilot counters with more horsepower, a stronger overall market position, and a higher share of accident-free listings.

If you want the lower-cost family SUV, the Pathfinder makes sense. If you want the stronger all-around package and can spend more, the Pilot is the better pick.
