How much does the 2016 Nissan Pathfinder cost?

Prices have softened 7.43% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 783 listings available, which gives you a meaningful pool to compare prices and equipment.

Is the 2016 Nissan Pathfinder a good car?

Yes — the 2016 Nissan Pathfinder earns a 5/5 user rating and a 6.5/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Form and function at 10/10.

Owners consistently praise the spacious interior, smooth driving experience, comfort, power, and cargo space, especially when you need the third row. That lines up with the Pathfinder’s role as a family-sized crossover SUV that’s meant to handle daily hauling duties without much fuss.

The market also shows 31.7% of listings as good or great deals, so you have room to shop selectively.

Is the 2016 Nissan Pathfinder reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owner feedback points to a vehicle that feels dependable, with repeated praise for its comfort, power, and trouble-free family use. The expert evaluation also describes the V6 as dependable and powerful, which supports the idea that the Pathfinder’s core drivetrain is built for steady everyday service.

The cost-effectiveness assessment adds that the Pathfinder can be a sensible ownership choice if you value practical transportation and can find a strong deal. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that a well-used example may hide wear or maintenance neglect, so condition matters a lot.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Nissan Pathfinder?

At 53.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually attractive. Focus on body condition, signs of prior repair, and whether the vehicle has been maintained consistently.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The basic S trim level is front-wheel drive, while SV, SL, and Platinum add equipment and refinement. The SL also gets Tech and Premium sub-trim designations, and the Platinum is the most fully equipped version.
• Powertrain: The Pathfinder uses a 3.5-liter V6 with 260 horsepower and 240 lb-ft of torque, paired with a CVT. Front-wheel drive is standard, and 4WD is optional with automatic and lock modes.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes a reversing camera with rear cross-traffic alert, blind-spot warning, a 360-degree top-down monitor, and Easy Fill Tire Alert. It does not offer drowsy-driver detection, lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist, forward-collision warning, or automatic emergency braking.
• Infotainment: The system does not offer natural voice recognition, smartphone projection, NissanConnect with Mobile Apps, or connected-services features. The Family Entertainment Package adds dual viewing screens, wireless headphones, a remote, a 3-prong electrical outlet, and video-game hookups.
• Fuel efficiency: The expert test loop returned 20.2 mpg, and the source notes an EPA estimate of 21 mpg in combined driving.

Which 2016 Nissan Pathfinder trim should I buy?

The 2016 Nissan Pathfinder is offered in 4 trim levels: S, SV, SL, and Platinum.

Here's the short version:

• S: This is the entry point, and it gives you the Pathfinder’s core family-hauling space at the lowest price. It makes sense if you want the basics and plan to keep costs down.
• SV: This is the trim to target if you want a better balance of equipment and value without jumping to the top end. It should be the best-value choice for many shoppers.
• SL: This trim adds a more upscale feel, and the source specifically notes Tech and Premium sub-trim designations for the leather-lined SL variant.
• Platinum: This is the most fully equipped Pathfinder, and it’s the right pick if you want the most features and are willing to pay for them.

Safety equipment is a strength across the lineup, but the Pathfinder still lacks several advanced driver-assistance features that many rivals offered.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Nissan Pathfinder?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile options.

• Deal availability: 31.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 783 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.43% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 53.5% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $9,417, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 Nissan Pathfinder's resale value?

The current average of $9,545 sits slightly below last year's $10,312.

That decline suggests the Pathfinder has become more affordable for buyers, but it also means sellers may need to price competitively to move a used example. If you plan to sell later, condition and equipment will matter more because the market is already showing softer pricing.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2016 Nissan Pathfinder safe?

The 2016 Nissan Pathfinder earns a five-star overall crash-test rating from NHTSA, and it loses its Top Safety Pick designation from IIHS this year.

It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes a reversing camera with rear cross-traffic alert, blind-spot warning, a 360-degree top-down monitor, and Easy Fill Tire Alert. The main caveat is the lack of forward-collision warning and automatic emergency braking, along with the absence of lane-departure warning and lane-keeping assist.

Should I buy a 2016 Nissan Pathfinder or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 31.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 53.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.43% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2016 Pathfinder offers a spacious cabin and a smooth, family-friendly driving experience.

Consider the 2017 if:

• At $10,704, the 2017 costs more than the current year's $9,545 average.
• It adds a roomier, family-focused SUV setup with broad passenger and cargo appeal.

The bottom line: If you want the lower-priced option and value the 2016 Pathfinder’s space, comfort, and softer market pricing, this year makes sense. If you can stretch your budget, the 2017 is the better path for shoppers who want to spend more for a newer model-year alternative.
