With 818 listings available, you have a meaningful amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2017 Nissan Pathfinder a good car?

Generally — the 2017 Nissan Pathfinder earns 4.4/5 from owners and 7.83/10 from our experts. The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.

Owners consistently praise its comfort, features, and spaciousness, and they also highlight smooth performance and good gas mileage. That lines up with the Pathfinder’s family-focused mission: it is built to handle daily hauling duties while still giving you available all-wheel-drive capability and a roomy cabin.

You should think of it as a practical three-row SUV for families who want space and versatility more than flash. 31.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so there are still some attractive opportunities in the market.

Is the 2017 Nissan Pathfinder reliable?

Owners rate it 4.4/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a vehicle that many people find dependable, comfortable, and easy to live with over time. The same summary also emphasizes its smooth performance and good gas mileage, which usually helps ownership feel less stressful day to day.

The expert drive notes reinforce that it is a well-rounded family hauler, and the cost-effectiveness section adds that the warranty coverage is in line with key rivals. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that steering issues and tire wear have come up often enough that you should inspect those areas carefully before you commit.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Nissan Pathfinder?

At 55.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection. Focus on signs of prior body damage, uneven tire wear, steering feel, and any evidence that the vehicle has been repaired after a collision.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base S includes an 8-inch touchscreen, 18-inch alloy wheels, LED daytime running lights, roof rails, push-button start, remote keyless entry, a reversing camera, Bluetooth calling, and three-zone automatic climate control. Higher trims add more convenience and comfort, with the SL and Platinum bringing more premium equipment.
• Powertrain: The Pathfinder uses a 3.5-liter V6 with 284 horsepower and a continuously variable transmission. It can be driven in front-wheel drive or available all-wheel drive, and it offers a 6,000-pound towing capacity.
• Safety package: Standard safety equipment includes front and side impact airbags, Vehicle Dynamics Control with traction control, front and rear crumple zones, LATCH anchors, tire pressure monitoring, and Easy-Fill Tire Alert. Higher trims add blind-spot warning, a 360-degree camera system, and forward-collision-avoidance features.
• Infotainment: An 8-inch touchscreen is standard, and higher trims add navigation with real-time traffic and weather. The layout is straightforward, but it does not include Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.
• Fuel efficiency: The Pathfinder can switch to 2-wheel drive for better fuel economy, and the available all-wheel-drive system can be left in Auto for everyday use.

Which 2017 Nissan Pathfinder trim should I buy?

The 2017 Nissan Pathfinder is offered in 4 trim levels: S, SV, SL, Platinum.

Here's the short version:

• S: This is the value play if you want the Pathfinder’s core family-hauling strengths without paying for extras. You still get the standard 8-inch touchscreen, a reversing camera, Bluetooth, three-zone climate control, and the basic convenience features that make the SUV easy to live with.
• SV: This trim adds useful everyday upgrades like remote start, fog lights, smart auto-on headlights, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, and backup sensors. It is the best-value choice for many shoppers because it adds comfort and convenience without jumping too far in price.
• SL: This is the trim to target if you want a more upscale family SUV. It adds leather seating and door trim, heated front and rear seats, a 360-degree camera system, blind-spot warning, and a motion-activated liftgate.
• Platinum: Choose this if you want the most premium Pathfinder. It adds 20-inch wheels, upgraded LED projector headlights, a panoramic moonroof, navigation with real-time traffic and weather, heated and cooled front seats, a power tilt-telescoping steering column, and forward-collision-avoidance with adaptive cruise control.

The safety package is strongest on the higher trims, where you get the most advanced driver-assistance features.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Nissan Pathfinder?

The market looks selective rather than overheated, so you can shop with some leverage if you are patient.

• Deal availability: 31.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 818 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.16% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 55.4% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $10,685, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 Nissan Pathfinder's resale value?

The current average of $10,704 sits slightly below last year's $11,530.

That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer today but may limit upside if you plan to resell soon. If you buy at the right price and keep the vehicle in strong condition, you can reduce the impact of further depreciation.

The Pathfinder’s broad family appeal and solid owner satisfaction help support demand, especially for shoppers who want space and available all-wheel drive. Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.4/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2017 Nissan Pathfinder safe?

The Pathfinder earns five-star ratings from NHTSA and is a Top Safety Pick from IIHS.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes front and side impact airbags, Vehicle Dynamics Control with traction control, front and rear crumple zones, LATCH child-seat anchors, tire pressure monitoring, and Easy-Fill Tire Alert. Higher trims add blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic alert, and forward-collision-avoidance features, while the Platinum trim includes adaptive cruise control.

Should I buy a 2017 Nissan Pathfinder or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 31.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 55.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.16% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• The 2017 Pathfinder adds a stronger 284-horsepower V6 and updated safety and convenience features.

Consider the 2016 if:

• At $9,545, the 2016 costs less than the current year's $10,704 average.
• It is a functional family SUV with a spacious interior and a smooth driving experience.

The bottom line: If you want the better-equipped and more refined Pathfinder, the 2017 is the stronger pick. If your priority is saving money and you can live with a more basic experience, the 2016 is the cheaper route.
