Summary
With 135 currently listed for sale and an average price of $13,819, 30.4% of 2016 Mercedes-Benz E-Class listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.

Why it stands out
The 2016 Mercedes-Benz E-Class stands out as a used luxury sedan that blends a polished, upscale feel with a strong reputation for technology and comfort. In its fifth-generation form, it was introduced in 2016 as a sedan, with wagon versions following later the same year, and it brought a more S-Class-like look along with a high-tech cabin. The interior is defined by a swoopy dashboard, circular air vents, and, in most versions, two side-by-side 12.3-inch display screens that create the appearance of one large screen. Standard equipment is generous, with electric adjustment for the steering wheel and front seats, a rear-view camera, satellite navigation, LED headlamps, and a wealth of driver-assistance safety features.
What makes the 2016 Mercedes-Benz E-Class especially appealing is how much performance and refinement it offers across the range. The available engines include 2.0-liter four-cylinder and 3.0-liter six-cylinder options, all with a nine-speed automatic transmission, and some versions are available with rear-wheel drive or 4Matic all-wheel drive. The model also includes Mercedes-AMG variants for buyers who want much stronger performance, while the standard car still feels like a true luxury vehicle. Owners commonly praise its classic styling, comfortable drive, and the six-cylinder engine’s performance, which fits the car’s upscale character well.
There are a few tradeoffs to keep in mind. The E-Class is expensive, even by class standards, and some owners have reported juddering brakes, glitchy infotainment systems, and, on early E300 models, a potential cracked-piston issue. Even so, the 2016 Mercedes-Benz E-Class remains a compelling used choice because it delivers a lot of comfort, prestige, and technology for the money, while still feeling current and well built.

Moving from sn SUV to a sedan the E400 series offered Mercedes dependability and performance at an affordable price. Thrilled with my purchase. I had looked at the 300 but at 6-4 I found the 400 to be more comfortable.

How much does the 2016 Mercedes-Benz E-Class cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $15,106 |
| Year-Round Low | $15,004 |
| Year-Round High | $15,969 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $15,551 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −2.86% |
Prices have softened 2.86% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 1,026 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of options to compare.
Is the 2016 Mercedes-Benz E-Class a good car?
Yes — the 4.6/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction. Owners consistently praise its classic styling, comfortable drive, and the performance of the 6-cylinder engine, and the overview also highlights its upscale feel, high-tech cabin, and generous standard equipment. If you want a used luxury sedan that feels polished and well equipped, this model year fits that brief well. With 32.0% of listings marked as good or great deals, you still have room to shop selectively.
Is the 2016 Mercedes-Benz E-Class reliable?
Owners rate it 4.6/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback also emphasizes reliability, along with a comfortable drive and a trouble-free ownership experience for many buyers. That said, a few owners mention issues with dealership transparency, so you should still verify condition carefully before you commit.
For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is buying a car with hidden condition or maintenance issues, so a thorough pre-purchase check matters.
What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Mercedes-Benz E-Class?
At 55.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and confirm whether any prior damage was repaired properly. Then prioritize a hands-on inspection of the brakes, infotainment system, and overall interior and exterior condition, since those are the kinds of areas that can reveal how well the car has been maintained. If possible, have a qualified mechanic evaluate the car before you buy, especially if the listing price looks unusually attractive.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Mercedes-Benz E-Class?
This is a moderate market, so you can be selective without expecting a deep bargain on every listing.
- Deal availability: 32.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,026 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 2.86% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 55.8% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $15,004, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2016 Mercedes-Benz E-Class's resale value?
The current average of $15,106 sits slightly below last year's $15,551.
That softer pricing suggests the model has already absorbed some depreciation, which can help limit how much value you lose if you buy at the right price. For a future seller, that means condition and documentation will matter a lot, because well-kept examples should stand out more clearly in a market where prices have eased. Strong demand for a luxury sedan with a good reputation can still support resale, especially if the car presents well and has a clean history.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.6/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2016 Mercedes-Benz E-Class or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2016 if:
- 32.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 55.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 2.86% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.6/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: You should start with the 2016 if you want a well-equipped luxury sedan with strong owner approval and a price that has already eased a bit. If you are especially price-sensitive, a nearby year may be worth comparing, but the 2016 remains the better all-around target when you want a balance of value, features, and buyer confidence.
