Prices have softened 11.60% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 499 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare before you buy.

Is the 2016 Lincoln MKX a good car?

Yes — the 2016 Lincoln MKX earns a 4.9/5 user rating and a 6.7/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 10/10.

Owners consistently praise its luxurious features, smooth ride, and powerful yet economical engines. They also highlight the spacious interior and advanced technology, which fit well with its role as a premium crossover for shoppers who want comfort and features. At the same time, the overview makes clear that it is stylish and well equipped, but not fully polished, so you should expect a vehicle that feels appealing and energetic rather than class-leading in every area.

With 33.3% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2016 Lincoln MKX reliable?

Owners rate it 4.9/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner summary points to a vehicle that feels luxurious, smooth, and economical, with many drivers appreciating its dependable-feeling powertrain and advanced technology. The expert notes also emphasize that the MKX is responsive and quick, and that its brakes work flawlessly, which supports the impression of a vehicle you can count on day to day.

The cost-effectiveness discussion suggests the MKX may face higher ownership-risk concerns than some rivals, especially if you prioritize refinement and long-term durability. For used buyers, that means condition and maintenance history matter a lot more than the badge alone.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Lincoln MKX?

At 66.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing has any accident history or signs of uneven wear. Pay close attention to cabin condition, build quality, and how well the technology and driver-assistance features work, since the review repeatedly points to refinement and detail as weak spots. If possible, test the infotainment system, parking aids, and safety features yourself before you commit.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base MKX is positioned as a stylish, well-equipped luxury crossover, but the review makes clear that the cabin does not feel like a major upgrade over the Ford Edge underneath it. Higher-equipped versions add more luxury content, but the test vehicle also showed build-quality issues, so you should inspect interior fit and finish carefully.
• Powertrain: The turbocharged 2.7-liter V6 is described as responsive and quick, with strong torque and a more energetic character in Sport mode. The standard 3.7-liter V6 is also part of the lineup, and the review notes that the turbo engine does not deliver a huge horsepower jump so much as a torque advantage.
• Safety package: The MKX includes MyKey and 911 Assist, and the available Driver Assistance Package adds adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning with pedestrian detection, brake support and automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and driver alert monitoring. Blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert is included with the Reserve equipment package.
• Infotainment: Sync 3 is the system you want, since it is described as faster, easier to use, and better than MyLincoln Touch. The review also mentions improved voice recognition, better graphics, and a touchscreen interface that works more like a smartphone.
• Fuel efficiency: The turbocharged 2.7-liter V6 returned 18.5 mpg in testing, with an official combined rating of 19 mpg.

Which 2016 Lincoln MKX trim should I buy?

The 2016 Lincoln MKX is offered in 1 trim level: MKX.

Here's the short version:

The MKX is best approached as a well-equipped luxury crossover that rewards you most when you focus on condition, options, and technology rather than trim complexity. Since the review highlights the value of Sync 3 and the available safety and convenience packages, the best used example is the one that has the features you want and the cleanest history. If you want the strongest overall ownership experience, prioritize a well-kept example with the newer infotainment setup and the driver-assistance equipment you’ll actually use.

The safety package note is important here: the available Driver Assistance Package adds a broad set of active-safety features, while blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert comes with the Reserve equipment package.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Lincoln MKX?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 33.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 499 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.60% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 66.9% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $12,231, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 Lincoln MKX's resale value?

The current average of $12,231 sits slightly below last year's $13,835.

That decline suggests the MKX has already absorbed a meaningful amount of depreciation, which can help you as a buyer but may limit upside if you plan to resell soon. If you buy at the right price and keep the vehicle in strong condition, you may be better positioned than someone who paid closer to the original market peak. The key is to avoid overpaying for a high-mileage or poorly maintained example, since resale value will depend heavily on condition and equipment.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.9/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2016 Lincoln MKX safe?

The 2016 Lincoln MKX earns five-star ratings in each NHTSA assessment, combined with a four-star rollover resistance rating, and IIHS testing is incomplete with Good ratings for moderate offset frontal impact and side impact tests.

It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.

The MKX’s safety suite includes MyKey, 911 Assist, blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert on the Reserve equipment package, and an available Driver Assistance Package with adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning with pedestrian detection, brake support and automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and driver alert monitoring. The review also notes that the driver can adjust sensitivity and warnings so the systems work more subtly.

The main caveat is that IIHS testing was incomplete at the time of the review, so you should treat the available crash-test picture as strong but not fully finished.

Should I buy a 2016 Lincoln MKX or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 33.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 66.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.60% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.9/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2016 MKX is a stylish, well-equipped luxury crossover that feels responsive and quick, but the review says it still needs more refinement and attention to detail.

The bottom line: If you want the best mix of price relief and available inventory, the 2016 is a reasonable place to shop, especially if you can find a clean, well-optioned example with Sync 3 and the safety features you want. If you’re especially sensitive to refinement and long-term polish, you may want to compare it carefully against other years or alternatives before buying.

How does the 2016 Lincoln MKX compare to the 2016 Ford Edge?

Our experts score the 2016 Lincoln MKX 6.7/10 and the 2016 Ford Edge 8.5/10.

The MKX brings the more upscale image and a stronger luxury feel, but the review says its cabin does not feel like a substantial upgrade over the Edge underneath it. The Edge is the better-rated overall vehicle here, while the MKX stands out more for styling, available luxury equipment, and its stronger premium presentation. If you care most about value and overall balance, the Edge looks stronger; if you want the Lincoln badge and a more distinctive luxury crossover, the MKX is the more expressive choice.
