You should run a vehicle history report before you commit, then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection on any car that looks promising. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.65/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2016 Kia Soul or consider a different year?

Choose the 2016 if:

• 30.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 55.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.65% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.65/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $7,813, the 2015 costs less than the current year's $8,328 average.
• It offers strong value with personality and useful upgrades.

Consider the 2017 if:

• At $8,820, the 2017 costs more than the current year's $8,328 average.

The bottom line: The 2016 is the best all-around pick if you want a balanced mix of price, owner satisfaction, and everyday usefulness. If your priority is saving money, the 2015 is the smarter value play; if you want newer styling and are willing to pay more, the 2017 is the better alternative.
