How much does the 2016 Kia Sorento cost?

Prices have softened 7.07% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,189 listings available, which suggests you should have a workable selection to compare.

Is the 2016 Kia Sorento a good car?

Yes — 4.64/5. The expert rating is 8.83/10.

The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel, Form and function, Cost effectiveness, Technology, and Safety.

Drivers consistently praise its reliability, performance, smooth ride, handling, and good fuel efficiency. The Sorento’s all-new design and more upscale interior also fit well if you want a crossover that feels more refined than a typical family hauler.

That makes it a strong fit if you want everyday usability with a more mature feel, though it is not aimed at buyers chasing maximum excitement. 32.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2016 Kia Sorento reliable?

Owners rate it 4.64/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Drivers’ feedback specifically points to reliability, and the review summary also highlights performance, smooth ride quality, handling, and good fuel efficiency. The expert evaluation adds that the turbocharged engine is responsive in traffic and that the cabin stays quiet and composed, which supports the impression of a dependable daily driver.

The cost-effectiveness review also notes a 10-year/100,000-mile limited powertrain warranty, which is a useful ownership cushion if you’re buying used. For long-term ownership, your main risk is less about the model’s basic durability and more about finding one that has been maintained well and hasn’t accumulated hidden wear.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Kia Sorento?

At 60.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or one with multiple owners. Pay close attention to bodywork quality, panel alignment, and signs of prior repair, since accident history can affect long-term value and confidence. It also makes sense to verify that the features you want are actually present, because equipment varies a lot by trim.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base L is described as very well equipped, but the higher trims add meaningful comfort and convenience upgrades such as UVO eServices, a rear camera, heated front seats, leather trim, a panoramic sunroof, and a power liftgate. The top trims also bring more premium lighting, a stronger audio system, and additional driver-assistance features.
• Powertrain: You can choose between a 2.4-liter inline 4-cylinder with 185 hp and 178 lb-ft of torque, a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder with 240 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque, and a 3.3-liter V6 with 290 hp and 252 lb-ft of torque. The turbo is described as peppy, while the V6 brings stronger towing capability.
• Safety package: Standard safety equipment includes dual front advanced airbags, side airbags, side curtain airbags, a rollover sensor, ABS, stability control, traction control, and electronic brakeforce distribution. Higher trims add or offer a rear camera, back-up warning, blind-spot detection, rear cross-traffic alert, advanced smart cruise control, forward-collision warning, and lane-departure warning.
• Infotainment: The Sorento includes AM/FM/CD/MP3/SiriusXM and Bluetooth, while higher trims add UVO eServices, voice-command navigation, and an 8-inch display. The system also supports Sirius traffic and app-based features through UVO.
• Fuel efficiency: The turbocharged all-wheel-drive setup is rated at 19 mpg city/25 highway/22 combined, and it takes regular unleaded gas.

Which 2016 Kia Sorento trim should I buy?

The 2016 Kia Sorento is offered in 8 trim levels: L, LX, LX V6, EX, EX V6, SX V6, Limited, and Limited V6.

Here's the short version:

• L: This is the value starting point, and it already includes a long list of standard equipment such as Bluetooth, steering-wheel controls, keyless entry, and a 6-speed automatic. It makes sense if you want the lowest entry price and can live without the extra convenience and safety tech found higher up.
• LX: This trim adds UVO eServices, roof rails, a rear camera, and more available comfort features, making it a smart step up for shoppers who want better everyday usability. It is the best-value choice for many buyers because it adds useful equipment without pushing too far up the price ladder.
• LX V6: Choose this if you want the stronger V6 engine and standard third-row seating. It suits you best if passenger capacity and extra power matter more than keeping costs down.
• EX: This is where the Sorento starts to feel more upscale, with standard dual-zone climate control, heated front seats, leather trim, and more available tech and safety features. It is a strong middle-ground choice if you want a more premium experience without going all the way to the top trims.
• EX V6: This trim combines the EX’s richer equipment with the V6 and the return of the third row and rear air conditioning. It is the right pick if you want a well-equipped family hauler with more power and seating flexibility.
• SX V6: This trim makes the EX V6’s optional features standard and adds more style touches, memory seating, and upgraded exterior details. It fits you best if you want a more fully loaded Sorento without stepping into the Limited range.
• Limited: This trim adds the most advanced available equipment, including optional surround-view monitoring and advanced driver-assistance features. It is the best choice if you want the most technology and safety content available with the turbo engine.
• Limited V6: This is the top choice if you want the V6 plus the most complete equipment mix, including the third row and rear air conditioning. It is the most fully featured version for buyers who want maximum comfort and capability.

The safety package is broad across the lineup, but the most advanced driver-assistance features are concentrated in the upper trims.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Kia Sorento?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.

• Deal availability: 32.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,189 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.07% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 60.3% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $9,875, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 Kia Sorento's resale value?

The current average of $9,875 sits slightly below last year's $10,626.

That softer pricing suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy more confidently now but may also limit near-term upside if you plan to resell soon. For a future seller, the key is to buy well and keep the vehicle in strong condition, because a lower entry price can help offset depreciation later. Well-equipped trims and clean history examples should hold up better with shoppers who want value and a more upscale feel.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.64/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2016 Kia Sorento safe?

The 2016 Kia Sorento received a Good rating from IIHS and earned 2015 Top Safety Pick status for its crash-test performance.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

The Sorento comes with a broad standard safety set that includes dual front advanced airbags, side airbags, side curtain airbags for the first and second rows, a rollover sensor, ABS, stability control, traction control, and electronic brakeforce distribution. Higher trims add or offer a rear camera, back-up warning, blind-spot detection, rear cross-traffic alert, advanced smart cruise control, forward-collision warning, and lane-departure warning.

The main caveat is that some of the more advanced driver-assistance features are not standard across the lineup, so you’ll want to verify trim content carefully if those systems matter to you.

Should I buy a 2016 Kia Sorento or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 32.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 60.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.07% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.64/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2016 brings an all-new design, a refined interior, and a new turbocharged engine option.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $8,408, the 2015 costs less than the current year's $9,875 average.
• It offers a polished look and strong equipment value.

Consider the 2017 if:

• At $11,136, the 2017 costs more than the current year's $9,875 average.
• It broadens appeal with stronger all-around balance and segment-leading breadth.

The bottom line: If you want the best mix of price, features, and a more upscale feel, the 2016 is the sweet spot. If your priority is spending less, the 2015 is the cheaper path, while the 2017 makes sense if you’re willing to pay more for a newer-feeling alternative.
