How much does the 2016 Kia Sedona cost?

There are 357 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of used Sedonas to compare.

Is the 2016 Kia Sedona a good car?

Yes — the 2016 Kia Sedona earns a 4.5/5 user rating and a 7.7/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Performance and Technology.

Kia’s pitch here is clear: you get minivan utility with SUV-inspired styling, and the top SXL trim adds a more upscale feel with luxury-car materials and features. The expert review also points to strong safety credentials and a family-friendly layout that still feels distinctive.

With 30.3% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have a decent chance of finding one priced competitively.

Is the 2016 Kia Sedona reliable?

Owners rate it 4.5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The Sedona is described as a practical, family-focused minivan that delivers the space and usefulness buyers expect, while the expert review also notes that quality and reliability are about average overall. Its 3.3-liter V6 is presented as a strong, confident engine, and the transmission and chassis tuning are described as refined and composed in everyday driving.

Kia also includes some ownership-friendly touches, including free access to teen-monitoring features through UVO eServices, and some buyers may find a free maintenance program in certain markets. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is making sure the vehicle’s condition and maintenance history are solid, since the available data suggests average ownership costs rather than standout durability.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Kia Sedona?

At 55.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-trim example with more equipment. Focus on body condition, signs of prior repair, and whether the safety and convenience features still work as intended.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Sedona’s design leans SUV-like, but the exposed sliding door tracks are a notable styling tradeoff. Higher trims add a more upscale cabin, and the SXL especially is positioned as the luxury-leaning version.
• Powertrain: The 3.3-liter V6 makes 276 horsepower and is paired with a 6-speed automatic. The review says it delivers strong passing power and composed everyday performance, with Drive Mode Select on SX and SXL models.
• Safety package: UVO eServices includes teen-monitoring features such as speed, curfew, and boundary alerts. Blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert is available on EX and standard on SX and SXL, while the Technology Package adds adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, and automatic high-beam headlights.
• Infotainment: UVO eServices uses an 8-inch touchscreen and includes connected features like emergency calling, automatic collision notification, and parking minder. SX and SXL models can add navigation, a premium audio system, and a 360-degree surround-view monitor.
• Fuel efficiency: The review cites 17 mpg city, 22 mpg highway, and 19 mpg combined EPA estimates, and also reports 22.1 mpg in highway-heavy driving and 19.1 mpg in combined driving.

Which 2016 Kia Sedona trim should I buy?

The 2016 Kia Sedona is offered in 5 trim levels: L, LX, EX, SX, and SXL (SX Limited).

Here's the short version:

• L: This is the entry point, so it makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into Sedona ownership and don’t need the extra convenience and tech found higher up the range.
• LX: This is the value-oriented step up if you want a better-equipped Sedona without jumping too far in price. It’s the trim to watch if you want a practical balance of features and cost.
• EX: This is the trim to consider if you want a stronger mix of comfort and safety equipment, including available blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert.
• SX: This trim adds more premium equipment and is one of the versions that can be paired with the Technology Package, which brings adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, and automatic high-beam headlights.
• SXL (SX Limited): This is the most upscale choice, with the luxury-leaning materials and features that help the Sedona feel more premium than many rivals. If you want the best-equipped version, this is the one to target.

The safety package note to keep in mind is that blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert is standard on SX and SXL, but only available on EX.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Kia Sedona?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 30.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 357 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.29% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 55.2% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $8,786, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 Kia Sedona's resale value?

The current average of $8,786 sits slightly below last year's $9,477.

That tells you the market has softened, which can help you as a buyer today but may limit upside if you plan to resell soon. If you’re thinking about future value, the current pricing trend suggests the Sedona is more of a practical purchase than a strong appreciation play.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2016 Kia Sedona safe?

The 2016 Kia Sedona earns five-star ratings in every federal government assessment and a four-star rollover resistance rating from NHTSA, plus the top rating of Good in all IIHS crash tests.

It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

Kia includes UVO eServices with free teen-monitoring features such as speed, curfew, and boundary alerts. Blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert is available on EX and standard on SX and SXL, while the Technology Package adds adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, and automatic high-beam headlights.

One caveat is that the IIHS frontal crash prevention result is only Basic, and the review says Kia needs to add automatic emergency braking to improve that area. The expert review also notes that the automatic high beams and forward-collision warning did not perform especially well in testing.

Should I buy a 2016 Kia Sedona or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 30.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 55.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.29% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2016 model stands out for blending SUV-inspired styling with minivan practicality, plus top-notch safety ratings and an upscale SXL trim.

The bottom line: If you want the best mix of price, features, and family utility, the 2016 is a sensible target. If you’re especially price-sensitive, focus on the lower-priced listings and verify condition carefully; if you want a more premium feel, look for a well-equipped higher trim.
