How much does the 2016 Jeep Wrangler cost?

Prices have softened 7.97% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 5,830 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2016 Jeep Wrangler a good car?

Yes — the 2016 Jeep Wrangler earns a 4.6/5 user rating and a 6.2/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Performance at 9/10. Owners consistently praise its fun driving experience, comfortable interior, and impressive power, especially with the manual transmission. It also fits buyers who want a distinctive, go-anywhere vehicle with simple controls and lower repair costs. If you value rugged character, removable-top appeal, and year-round capability more than road refinement, this model year lines up well with that use case. Good and great deals make up 31.0% of listings, so there is still room to shop selectively.

Is the 2016 Jeep Wrangler reliable?

Owners rate it 4.6/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction. In owner feedback, the Wrangler is described as simple, rugged, and associated with lower repair costs, which points to a dependable ownership experience for buyers who value durability over polish. The expert evaluation also emphasizes its rugged standard equipment and purpose-built character, reinforcing that it is designed to be counted on in demanding use. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about complexity and more about how hard the vehicle was used, so condition and maintenance history matter a lot.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Jeep Wrangler?

At 65.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a thorough inspection of the body, frame, and undercarriage. Because this model is often used hard, condition matters more than mileage alone. Pay close attention to signs of off-road wear, water intrusion, and any evidence of poor repairs.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Sport comes with manual windows and door locks, air conditioning, 16-inch steel wheels, and cloth seats, while the Sport S adds power windows and locks, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, an auto-dimming rear-view mirror, and 17-inch aluminum wheels. The Sahara adds bright interior accents, automatic headlights, Sirius satellite radio, 18-inch polished wheels, and color-keyed fender flares. The Rubicon is the most trail-focused trim, with BF Goodrich off-road tires and an electronically disconnecting front sway bar.
• Powertrain: Every version uses a 3.6-liter V6 with 285 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque, paired with either a 6-speed manual or 5-speed automatic transmission and standard 4-wheel drive. Fuel economy is estimated at 16 mpg city and 21 highway with the manual, while the automatic keeps city mileage the same and drops highway mileage to 20 mpg.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes multistage airbags, electronic stability control, electronic roll mitigation, and ultra-strong roll bars. It does not offer lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, forward-collision avoidance, or a backup camera.
• Infotainment: The base setup includes the Radio 130 with a CD player, MP3 capability, and a front auxiliary audio jack. A 6.5-inch touchscreen adds GPS-based navigation, Bluetooth connectivity, and front-facing aux audio and USB capabilities.
• Fuel efficiency: Fuel economy is estimated at 16 mpg city and 21 highway with the manual, and 16 mpg city and 20 highway with the automatic.

Which 2016 Jeep Wrangler trim should I buy?

The 2016 Jeep Wrangler is offered in 4 trim levels: Sport, Sport S, Sahara, and Rubicon.

Here's the short version:

• Sport: This is the entry point, and it gives you the Wrangler basics without much extra equipment. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost path into the model and do not mind manual windows and locks.
• Sport S: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds power windows and locks, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, an auto-dimming rear-view mirror, and 17-inch aluminum wheels without jumping to the higher-priced trims.
• Sahara: Choose this if you want a more polished cabin and more convenience features, including bright interior accents, automatic headlights, Sirius satellite radio, and 18-inch polished wheels.
• Rubicon: This is the trail-focused choice, with BF Goodrich off-road tires and an electronically disconnecting front sway bar for greater wheel articulation.

The safety equipment is basic across the lineup, so trim choice should come down to comfort, convenience, and off-road intent.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Jeep Wrangler?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile options.

• Deal availability: 31.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 5,830 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.97% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 65.2% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $17,152, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 Jeep Wrangler's resale value?

The current average of $17,152 sits slightly below last year's $18,636.

That price movement suggests the Wrangler has softened enough to create a more approachable entry point for used buyers. For a future seller, that means resale value may be steadier if the vehicle is well kept, but you should not expect a strong appreciation story from this model year alone. Condition, trim, and accident history will matter a lot when it comes time to resell. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.6/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2016 Jeep Wrangler safe?

The 2016 Jeep Wrangler earns a 3/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes multistage airbags, electronic stability control, electronic roll mitigation, and ultra-strong roll bars. It also offers trailer sway control for added peace of mind when towing. The main caveat is that it lacks several modern driver-assistance features, including lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, forward-collision avoidance, and even a backup camera.

Should I buy a 2016 Jeep Wrangler or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 31.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 65.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.97% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.6/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2016 keeps the Wrangler’s convertible-top, 4-wheel-drive, and rugged-standard-equipment formula intact.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $16,203, the 2015 costs less than the current year's $17,152 average.
• It stays true to its rugged identity while adding updates like an upgraded sound system and fresh editions.

The bottom line: If you want the strongest mix of current-year pricing, inventory, and the classic Wrangler formula, the 2016 is the better starting point. If your priority is spending less up front and you are comfortable with an older model year, the 2015 is the value-oriented alternative.

How does the 2016 Jeep Wrangler compare to the 2016 Toyota 4Runner?

Our experts score the 2016 Jeep Wrangler 6.2/10 and the 2016 Toyota 4Runner 7.2/10. The Wrangler is the more distinctive choice if you want removable-top character, standard 4-wheel drive, and a more affordable used price. The 4Runner brings a stronger overall expert score, more highway efficiency, and a higher average used price, which reflects its broader appeal. If you want the most trail-focused personality, the Wrangler stands out; if you want a more expensive but more balanced SUV, the 4Runner has the edge.
