How much does the 2016 Hyundai Tucson cost?

Prices have softened 2.67% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,591 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of used Tucson options to compare.

Is the 2016 Hyundai Tucson a good car?

With a 3.8/5 user rating and a 7.8/10 expert rating, the 2016 Tucson lands in the solid-but-selective category rather than the must-buy tier.

Drivers commonly praise its smooth ride, comfortable interior, and reliability, and many also like features such as cooled seats and the panoramic roof. The overview points you toward a compact SUV that feels bigger and better than before, with especially strong gains in cargo space plus available safety and infotainment technology. That makes it a good fit if you want comfort, practicality, and a strong ownership package more than outright performance.

The model scores 10/10 across Look and feel and Safety.

Only 33.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so you should still compare carefully before jumping on the first appealing example.

Is the 2016 Hyundai Tucson reliable?

The 2016 Tucson has a strong ownership story on paper, with the overview emphasizing industry-leading warranty protection and the expert review noting that Hyundai’s long warranty coverage supports dependability.

Drivers also describe it as reliable, and the expert review says the Tucson has historically performed well in terms of durability and should remain relatively affordable to own. It also notes free roadside assistance for the first 5 years or 60,000 miles of ownership, which helps reduce early ownership stress.

The main caution is the 7-speed automated manual transmission, which the expert review flags as a likely source of negative owner feedback over time. For used buyers, that means long-term ownership risk is tied more to the powertrain than to the rest of the vehicle.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Hyundai Tucson?

At 62% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or one with a complicated option package. Focus on overall condition, signs of prior bodywork, and whether the transmission and safety equipment behave as expected on a test drive.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The SE is the base trim, while Sport and Limited add more equipment and features. The Limited stands out for its larger 8-inch touchscreen, navigation, premium sound system, dual-zone automatic climate control, Blue Link connected services, and available safety-related upgrades, while the Sport and Limited also add a hands-free power-operated rear liftgate. The base trim misses several of those convenience and tech upgrades.
• Powertrain: Every version except the base SE uses a turbocharged 1.6-liter 4-cylinder engine with a 7-speed EcoShift dual-clutch automated manual transmission. The setup delivers strong midrange acceleration once moving, but turbo lag and low-speed hesitation are the main drawbacks.
• Safety package: Every 2016 Tucson includes a standard reversing camera. Sport and Limited models add blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert and lane-change assist. The Limited and its optional Ultimate Package are required for automatic emergency braking with pedestrian-detection technology, and the Ultimate Package also adds lane-departure warning.
• Infotainment: Limited models get an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with navigation and a premium sound system, plus Blue Link connected services. The system includes subscription-based features such as remote access, emergency calling, automatic collision notification, and destination search.
• Fuel efficiency: The expert review cites 24 mpg city, 28 mpg highway, and 26 mpg combined.

Which 2016 Hyundai Tucson trim should I buy?

The 2016 Hyundai Tucson is offered in 4 trim levels: SE, Eco, Sport, and Limited.

Here's the short version:

• SE: This is the least expensive path into the Tucson, but it’s also the most basic. It makes sense if you want the lowest entry price and can live without the added convenience, tech, and safety content found higher up the range.
• Eco: This trim sits above the SE and is a better fit if you want a step up in equipment without going all the way to the top. It’s the trim to consider if you want a more balanced mix of features and value.
• Sport: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds meaningful equipment, including the hands-free power-operated rear liftgate and the blind-spot warning system with rear cross-traffic alert and lane-change assist. It’s a smart middle ground if you want more everyday convenience and safety without paying for the top trim.
• Limited: This is the most feature-rich choice, with the 8-inch touchscreen, navigation, premium audio, dual-zone climate control, and Blue Link connected services. If you want the most upscale Tucson experience, this is the one to target, especially if you’re also looking for the available safety upgrades.

For safety, the Limited and its optional Ultimate Package are the trims tied to automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection and lane-departure warning.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Hyundai Tucson?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you have room to shop, but the best examples still deserve quick action.

• Deal availability: 33.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,591 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.67% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 62.0% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $11,175, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 Hyundai Tucson's resale value?

The current average of $11,175 sits slightly below last year's $11,481.

That softer pricing suggests the Tucson is still a value-oriented used buy, which can help you if you’re shopping now. For a future seller, it means you should expect resale value to depend heavily on condition, mileage, and equipment rather than on broad market appreciation.

Because the average price has moved down 2.67%, you may not see strong short-term appreciation if you buy today. A well-kept Tucson with desirable features should still be easier to move than a rough example, but the market is clearly favoring buyers right now.

Is the 2016 Hyundai Tucson safe?

The 2016 Hyundai Tucson is a Top Safety Pick from IIHS and earns five-star ratings in all NHTSA tests.

It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.

Every 2016 Tucson includes a standard reversing camera, and Sport and Limited models add blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert and lane-change assist. The Limited and its optional Ultimate Package are required for automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, and the Ultimate Package also adds lane-departure warning.

One important caveat is that the strongest driver-assistance content is not standard on every trim, so you’ll want to verify exactly which safety features are on the vehicle you’re considering.

Should I buy a 2016 Hyundai Tucson or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 33.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 62% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.67% compared with last year.
• It’s the first year of the redesigned Tucson, with standout styling, a more comfortable and functional interior, top safety ratings, and strong available tech.

The bottom line: Choose the 2016 if you want the redesigned Tucson’s stronger styling, better cabin, and solid safety story at a lower used price. If you’re especially price-sensitive, you can still find good value here, but you should be extra careful about history and condition because the market includes a meaningful share of accident-involved listings.
