How much does the 2016 Honda Pilot cost?

Prices have softened 4.80% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 2,191 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of used Pilots to compare.

Is the 2016 Honda Pilot a good car?

Yes — the 2016 Honda Pilot earns a 4.82/5 user rating and a 7.33/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.

You get a family-focused SUV with a spacious interior, comfort, and good gas mileage, plus useful features like a DVD player that helps keep passengers entertained. It also fits shoppers who want SUV styling with the underlying practicality of a family hauler. Even so, some owners mention stereo issues and accessibility needs that could be improved with a trailer hitch.

With 33.5% of listings priced as good or great deals, there’s enough market activity to give you some negotiating room.

Is the 2016 Honda Pilot reliable?

Owners rate it 4.82/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Drivers consistently praise the Pilot’s spacious cabin, family-friendly usefulness, comfort, and good gas mileage, and those themes point to a vehicle people can count on for everyday family duty. Honda also frames the Pilot as a practical, well-built choice with solid reliability and resale, which reinforces its dependability story. The powertrain is described as smooth and strong, with cylinder deactivation that is imperceptible as it switches modes.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is making sure the transmission and other wear items have been cared for properly, especially on higher-mileage examples.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Honda Pilot?

At 59.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually attractive. Focus on body condition, signs of prior repair, and whether the cabin electronics and stereo work as expected. Because this model is often bought for family duty, it also makes sense to check that the seating, cargo area, and convenience features still match your needs.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: Honda offers five trims with either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, and the loaded Touring tester shows how much more upscale the higher trims can feel with 20-inch wheels, LED running lamps, and a more premium interior. The base trims are the ones most likely to leave you wanting more equipment.
• Powertrain: A single 3.5-liter V6 makes 280 hp and 262 lb-ft of torque, with cylinder deactivation for better efficiency under light loads. The LX and EX use a 6-speed automatic, while Touring and Elite models get a 9-speed automatic with auto start/stop.
• Safety package: Honda Sensing includes auto braking, forward-collision alert, lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control, and lane-keeping assist. It is available on EX trims and standard on Touring and Elite trims, while blind-spot monitoring is limited to the Elite.
• Infotainment: Loaded models bring up to 5 USB ports, a 115-volt household outlet, an HDMI input for the rear BluRay unit, and Garmin-based navigation. Honda LaneWatch and other upper-trim tech features add convenience, but the richest equipment is reserved for the higher trims.
• Fuel efficiency: The FWD LX and EX are rated at 19 mpg city and 27 highway, while FWD Touring and Elite reach 20/27. AWD versions are rated at 18/26 for LX and EX, and 19/26 for Touring and Elite.

Which 2016 Honda Pilot trim should I buy?

The 2016 Honda Pilot is offered in 5 trim levels: LX, EX, EX-L, Touring, Elite.

Here's the short version:

• LX: This is the simplest way into the Pilot, and it makes sense if you want the core V6, the 6-speed automatic, and the lowest entry price. It is the trim to choose if you mainly care about space and basic family utility.
• EX: This is the best-value trim because it adds access to Honda Sensing, which brings key driver-assistance features without forcing you into the highest-priced versions. If safety tech matters to you, this is the trim that most clearly improves the Pilot’s everyday appeal.
• EX-L: This is the right step up if you want a more upscale family SUV feel, especially with the leather-focused equipment implied by the trim name and the broader comfort emphasis in the lineup. It suits buyers who want more refinement without jumping all the way to the luxury-leaning trims.
• Touring: This is the sweet spot for shoppers who want the richer tech and comfort experience, including the 9-speed automatic, auto start/stop, acoustic glass, navigation, and the more loaded cabin presentation. It is the trim that best captures the Pilot’s near-premium character.
• Elite: This is the top choice if you want the most complete Pilot, including blind-spot monitoring and the fullest safety and convenience package. It makes the most sense if you want the most equipment and are willing to pay for it.

Honda Sensing is available on EX trims and standard on Touring and Elite trims, while blind-spot monitoring is limited to the Elite.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Honda Pilot?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory and pricing softness to reward careful shopping.

• Deal availability: 33.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,191 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.80% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 59.5% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $14,761, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 Honda Pilot's resale value?

The current average of $14,780 sits slightly below last year's $15,525.

That softer pricing suggests the Pilot has already absorbed some depreciation, which can help future sellers if they buy at the right price today. A lower entry cost gives you more room to preserve value over time, especially if you choose a well-kept example with desirable equipment. Strong demand for family-friendly three-row SUVs can also help support resale when the vehicle is clean and properly maintained.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.82/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2016 Honda Pilot safe?

The Pilot earns a Top Safety Pick+ rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, the nonprofit group’s best rating, and aced every test with the top Good rating.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Honda Sensing is the named driver-assistance suite, and it includes auto braking, forward-collision alert, lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control, and lane-keeping assist. It is available on EX trims and standard on Touring and Elite trims, while blind-spot monitoring is limited to the Elite. A standard backup camera can switch among three views for enhanced visibility.

Should I buy a 2016 Honda Pilot or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 33.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 59.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.80% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.82/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It pairs a redesigned body with a minivan chassis for SUV style and family-hauling practicality.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $11,740, the 2015 costs less than the current year's $14,780 average.
• It remains a spacious, practical family SUV.

Consider the 2017 if:

• At $16,925, the 2017 costs more than the current year's $14,780 average.
• It adds spaciousness, reliability, and available tech with a comfortable ride.

The bottom line: If you want the best mix of safety, family usefulness, and current-market value, the 2016 is the strongest all-around pick. If your budget is tighter, the 2015 can still make sense as a lower-cost family hauler, while shoppers who want to spend more for a newer-feeling package can look to the 2017.
