How much does the 2016 GMC Terrain cost?

Prices have softened 4.83% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,131 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare before you buy.

Is the 2016 GMC Terrain a good car?

Yes — the 2016 GMC Terrain earns a 4.6/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. Owners consistently praise its smooth ride, impressive features, and attractive design, and they also call out the comfort, technology, and sound system as standout strengths. For you, that makes it a good fit if you want a compact SUV that leans toward comfort and everyday practicality rather than sporty performance. With 29.9% of listings marked as good or great deals, you also have a decent chance of finding a competitively priced example.

Is the 2016 GMC Terrain reliable?

Owners rate it 4.6/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owner feedback highlights a comfortable, smooth-driving SUV that many people have enjoyed over time, with praise for its features and overall livability. That said, the model year’s reputation is shaped by recurring engine concerns, so used buyers should think carefully about maintenance history and overall condition before committing.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 GMC Terrain?

At 61% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report so you can confirm accident records, title status, and service history before you go any further. After that, prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, with extra attention to the engine, transmission behavior, and signs of uneven wear or deferred maintenance. Because condition can vary widely in the used market, focus on examples with clean records and clear documentation.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 GMC Terrain?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but should move quickly on the best examples.

• Deal availability: 29.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,131 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.83% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 61.0% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $10,041, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 GMC Terrain's resale value?

The current average of $10,099 sits slightly below last year's $10,612.

That softer pricing suggests the Terrain has already absorbed some of its depreciation, which can help future sellers if the market stays steady. If you buy well and keep the vehicle in strong condition, you may be able to limit further value loss compared with a more expensive used SUV. Demand should remain supported by the model’s comfort-focused appeal and broad shopper interest in practical compact SUVs.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.6/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2016 GMC Terrain or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 29.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 61% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.83% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.6/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

The bottom line: If you want a comfortable, well-equipped compact SUV and you find a clean, well-priced 2016 example, this year can make sense as the primary choice. If you’re especially price-sensitive, you may want to compare nearby model years and focus on the best-maintained vehicle rather than the cheapest one.
