Is the 2016 GMC Sierra 2500HD a good car?

Yes — the 2016 GMC Sierra 2500HD earns a 5/5 user rating, which points to very strong owner satisfaction.

Owners consistently praise its power, reliability, and luxurious features, and many also highlight the smooth ride and strong performance for towing and hauling. That makes it a good fit if you want a heavy-duty truck that still feels comfortable and upscale in everyday use.

With 28.1% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have a meaningful chance to find a competitive price if you shop carefully.

Is the 2016 GMC Sierra 2500HD reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback emphasizes reliability, and the recurring themes of dependable performance and trouble-free ownership are especially encouraging if you plan to keep the truck for the long haul. You also see repeated praise for its power and smooth ride, which suggests the truck can handle demanding use while still feeling composed.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about the overall reputation and more about finding a truck that has been maintained well enough to avoid expensive age- and use-related issues.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 GMC Sierra 2500HD?

At 64.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report so you can separate clean examples from trucks with prior damage or repeated claims. After that, prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially for electrical systems, transmission behavior, infotainment operation, and signs of rust or poor panel fit.

Because this is a heavy-duty truck, focus on condition and maintenance evidence rather than mileage alone. A well-kept example can be a much better buy than a cheaper truck with unresolved issues.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 GMC Sierra 2500HD?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you know what you want.

• Deal availability: 28.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 694 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.23% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 64.7% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $31,678, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 GMC Sierra 2500HD's resale value?

The current average of $31,678 sits slightly below last year's $34,900.

That price movement suggests the market has cooled, which can help you as a buyer today but may also mean future resale gains are more limited if prices continue to soften. If you buy at the right number and keep the truck in strong condition, you can still protect value reasonably well.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2016 GMC Sierra 2500HD or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 28.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 64.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.23% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

The bottom line: If you want a heavy-duty truck with strong owner approval and a softer used-market price, the 2016 is a sensible primary target. If you are especially price-sensitive, you may want to compare it with nearby years to see whether a lower-priced alternative gives you similar capability with a better deal.
