Why it stands out
The 2016 Ford Fusion stands out as a midsize sedan that blends sharp styling, strong road manners, and a lot of space. Ford developed the second-generation Fusion with help from its European Mondeo program, and the result was a car that looked distinctive while still offering a roomy cabin and a practical trunk. It was also one of the more engaging family sedans to drive, with capable handling and a comfortable ride that helped it appeal to buyers who wanted something more polished than a basic commuter car.
For 2016, the Fusion’s appeal came from its broad range of powertrains and features. The lineup included a 175-horsepower 2.5-liter Duratec, a turbocharged 1.5-liter EcoBoost rated at 181 hp, a 2.0-liter EcoBoost with 240 hp, and hybrid models that used a 2.0-liter Duratec four with an electric motor for up to 188 hp. It also offered available all-wheel drive on the top two engines, and Ford had already added a wide set of driver aids and convenience features across the generation, including lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alerts, adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, and more. The cabin was well equipped, and the car’s 38.3 inches of rear legroom and 16 cubic-foot trunk made it easy to live with.
There are a few tradeoffs, though. The non-hybrid models were not class leaders in fuel economy, and the hybrid versions could feel a little slow. Still, the 2016 Ford Fusion remains appealing because it combines style, space, and a strong feature set with a driving experience that feels more composed than many rivals.

Just unhappy with the malfunctioning rearview camera on our 2016 Ford fusion titanium.. Sounds like there should be a recall for our year of 2016 and others for the Ford fusion.

Good vehicle. Changing from 2018 GMC SUV AWD/4wd SUV to a 2 year older vehicle that does not have: AWD/4WD Towing package Bose Speakers Rear controls for radio & climate 8” ground clearance 3rd row seats V6 engine with the same mpg The strengths of the Fusion are; Price, looks clean & not rusty It is a vehicle “I wish I could afford when this Fusion was built”. Consumer Report recommended it. Great price if it last the “life of the loan”. My wife now has the “big vehicle”, so I have the option to get a smaller vehicle.

Is the 2016 Ford Fusion reliable?
Owners rate it 4.1/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.
Owner feedback specifically calls out reliability, and the same reviews also describe the car as comfortable and smooth-riding. That said, some buyers mention minor design flaws, rearview camera issues, and weaker acceleration in certain versions, so a careful test drive and inspection still matter. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is ending up with a car that has been maintained inconsistently or has unresolved electronic or drivability issues.
What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Ford Fusion?
At 56.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should run a vehicle history report before you commit, especially if the listing price looks unusually attractive. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that checks bodywork, electronics, and camera operation, since those are the kinds of issues owners have mentioned. Focus on overall condition and maintenance records, because a clean, well-kept example is more likely to deliver the ownership experience you want.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Ford Fusion?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you compare listings carefully.
- Deal availability: 28.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,632 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 5.39% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 56.3% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $8,765, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2016 Ford Fusion's resale value?
The current average of $8,765 sits slightly below last year's $9,265.
That softer pricing suggests the model has become more accessible for buyers, but it also means future sellers may need to stay competitive on condition and mileage. If you buy well and keep the car in strong shape, you can help protect your exit value later. Well-kept examples should remain easier to move than rougher ones because shoppers still respond to the Fusion’s comfort, space, and feature set.
Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.1/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2016 Ford Fusion or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2016 if:
- 28.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 56.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 5.39% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.1/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2015 if:
- At $8,228, the 2015 costs less than the current year's $8,765 average.
- It stands out with striking styling and a strong overall package.
The bottom line: If you want the better-balanced shopping opportunity, the 2016 is the stronger primary path because pricing has eased and inventory is healthy. If your top priority is spending less upfront, the 2015 is the better secondary path, especially if you find one in excellent condition.
