Why it stands out
The 2016 Ford F-150 stands out as a pickup that leans hard into luxury without abandoning its truck identity. Ford’s F-150 Limited is described as a genuine luxury vehicle in all but name, and it is presented as loaded with extras and tasteful trimmings. That combination gives it a more upscale feel than buyers might expect from a full-size, light-duty pickup.
What makes it especially appealing is the way those upscale touches are paired with a strong overall reputation. The summary calls it arguably the best full-size, light-duty pickup you can buy, which helps explain why it can look like a value despite a high price. For shoppers who want a truck that feels more refined than rugged, the 2016 Ford F-150 offers a distinctive blend of comfort, equipment, and prestige.
At the same time, the high price is part of the story, and it is worth keeping in mind for used buyers. The available owner feedback also points to comfort, power, and a smooth ride as recurring strengths, while noting that storage options can feel limited and that higher-mileage examples may be expensive.

First off, the waffles color (a beautiful, unique shade) really makes this truck stand out. It turns heads everywhere I go. The leather interior gives it a premium feel, and the sunroof adds an open, airy vibe, especially on sunny drives. This truck is packed with features—from the tech to the comfort, it has everything you could want. Whether it’s advanced infotainment, driver assists, or the luxury finishes, it doesn’t miss. The engine is powerful and responsive, making highway merges and towing feel effortless.

Great value for the vehicle. High mileage but that is not an issue like it used to be.

The truck spent the first 5 years in Michigan. There was new undercoating over the entire bottom of vehicle. In the cracks of the leaf springs and other crevices I could see crusty rust. Didn’t even take it for a drive.

For you, that means this truck makes the most sense if you want a full-size pickup that can handle work duties while still feeling comfortable for daily driving and longer trips.
With 28.6% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2016 Ford F-150 reliable?
Owners rate it 4.62/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
User feedback points to a truck that feels dependable, with many drivers describing it as a vehicle they can count on for comfort, power, and everyday use. The expert evaluation also notes that it rates better than average for reliability, which supports the idea that this model year has a solid ownership reputation.
Ford’s 911 Assist and the truck’s broader safety and convenience tech add confidence for daily use, and the available maintenance-friendly ownership experience helps reduce hassle early on. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is age-related wear, so condition and service history matter more than the badge alone.
What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Ford F-150?
At 65.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
Start with a vehicle history report so you can separate clean trucks from ones with collision repairs or repeated claims. Then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially on higher-mileage examples, because age and prior use can affect wear in ways photos won’t show. Focus your inspection on body condition, signs of repair quality, and whether the truck’s equipment still works as expected.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base XL is the most stripped-down choice, while higher trims add more upscale materials and features; the Limited stands out with luxury-oriented touches like caramel-colored leather and eucalyptus wood accents.
- Powertrain: The standard twin-turbo 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 makes 365 horsepower and 420 lb-ft of torque, with 11,800 pounds of towing capacity and an EPA estimate of 17 mpg combined.
- Safety package: Available driver-assistance features include adaptive cruise control with forward collision warning and brake support, blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert, and a lane-keeping system. The truck also includes 911 Assist through Sync.
- Infotainment: Sync 3 brings a capacitive touchscreen with swipe capability, improved voice recognition, Siri compatibility, navigation with pinch-to-zoom, and Wi-Fi software updates.
- Fuel efficiency: The EPA says this truck should return 17 mpg combined, and the test loop returned 16.7 mpg.
Which 2016 Ford F-150 trim should I buy?
The 2016 Ford F-150 is offered in 6 trim levels: XL, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum, and Limited.
Here's the short version:
- Base trim: The XL gives you the most affordable entry point, but it lacks the upscale materials and premium presentation found higher up the range.
- Sweet-spot trim: The XLT is the most balanced choice if you want more everyday comfort and equipment without jumping to luxury pricing.
- Premium/top trim: The Limited is the standout if you want the most luxurious version, with high-end interior materials and the strongest near-luxury feel.
- Off-road trim: The Raptor is not part of the standard 2016 lineup described here.
The safety package includes adaptive cruise control with forward collision warning and brake support, plus available blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic alert, and lane-keeping support.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Ford F-150?
This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop carefully and still find value.
- Deal availability: 28.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 6,349 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.25% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 65.5% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $18,918.43, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2016 Ford F-150's resale value?
The current average of $19,095 sits slightly below last year's $20,369.
That softer pricing suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a better entry point today. For a future seller, that also means your resale outcome will depend heavily on mileage, condition, and trim appeal rather than broad market momentum alone. Well-kept trucks with desirable equipment should hold up better than higher-mileage examples with visible wear.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.62/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2016 Ford F-150 safe?
The Ford F-150 earns a five-star overall rating from NHTSA and a Top Safety Pick rating from IIHS.
It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
Ford includes 911 Assist through Sync, and the truck is available with adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, brake support, blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert, and lane-keeping support. One important caveat is that the truck is not eligible for Top Safety Pick+ because it lacks automatic emergency braking.
Should I buy a 2016 Ford F-150 or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2016 if:
- 28.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 65.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.25% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.62/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- Ford adds Sync 3 and Pro Trailer Backup Assist, giving this year a notable tech upgrade.
Consider the 2015 if:
- At $17,965, the 2015 costs less than the current year's $19,095 average.
- It emphasizes versatility, with a smooth ride and broad configuration flexibility.
Consider the 2017 if:
- At $22,054, the 2017 costs more than the current year's $19,095 average.
- It adds the return of the Raptor and broader performance appeal.
The bottom line: If you want the best mix of price, tech, and luxury for this generation, the 2016 is the smart default. If your budget is tighter, the 2015 can save you money, while the 2017 makes sense if you want to pay more for the added performance and broader appeal of the next model year.
