How much does the 2016 Ford Escape cost?

Prices have softened 7.40% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 3,113 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of options to compare on price and condition.

Is the 2016 Ford Escape a good car?

Yes — the 2016 Ford Escape earns a 4.62/5 user rating and a 7.17/10 expert rating. The model scores 8/10 across Performance, Cost effectiveness, and Technology.

Owners consistently praise its zippy performance, stylish design, plenty of interior space, and strong handling. It also fits well if you want a compact crossover that balances comfort, capability, and technology, with the added appeal of the Sync 3 infotainment system.

With 30.2% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market still gives you room to find a strong-value example.

Is the 2016 Ford Escape reliable?

Owners rate it 4.62/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owner feedback points to a vehicle that feels dependable in daily use, with praise centered on its zippy performance, stylish design, and features that hold up well for its age. The expert evaluation also emphasizes the Escape’s stout engine options and composed driving character, which supports the sense that it’s a vehicle you can count on for regular commuting and family duty.

Ford also notes that reliability has scored quite high, and that helps offset some of the model’s older reputation. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is making sure prior wear, maintenance history, and condition are all in good shape before you commit.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Ford Escape?

At 67.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or one with visible cosmetic wear. Pay close attention to how the cabin, controls, and exterior panels have aged, since condition matters a lot on a model that can vary widely by trim and equipment. It’s also smart to confirm that the features you care about are actually present, because the Escape’s equipment spread changes a lot by trim.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The S trim includes a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, rear-view camera, blind-spot monitoring, and MyKey parental controls, while the SE adds 17-inch alloys, automatic headlights, fog lights, an 8-way power driver’s seat, and satellite radio. The Titanium adds keyless entry and ignition, an 8-way power front passenger seat, a 10-speaker Sony stereo with HD Radio, a power liftgate with foot sensor, an auto-dimming rear-view mirror, and ambient interior lighting.
• Powertrain: The S uses a 2.5-liter naturally aspirated 4-cylinder with 168 horsepower and 170 pound-feet of torque. SE and Titanium trims use a 1.6-liter EcoBoost turbo engine with 178 hp and 184 lb-ft, and the 2.0-liter EcoBoost turbo delivers 240 hp and 270 lb-ft for the strongest performance.
• Safety package: Standard safety equipment includes a rear-view camera, blind-spot monitoring, and MyKey parental controls, while the available Technology Package adds HID headlamps, blind-spot detection, auto wipers, and active park assist. The base trim already includes a useful safety set, but the package adds more advanced convenience and visibility tech.
• Infotainment: Sync 3 uses a 7-inch touchscreen, and the system was set to gain Apple CarPlay and Android Auto through an update later in the year. The Titanium trim also brings a 10-speaker Sony stereo with HD Radio.
• Fuel efficiency: The 2.5-liter engine returns 22 mpg city and 31 highway. The 1.6-liter EcoBoost delivers 23/32 with FWD and 22/29 with AWD, while the 2.0-liter EcoBoost returns 22/30 with FWD and 21/28 with AWD.

Which 2016 Ford Escape trim should I buy?

The 2016 Ford Escape is offered in 3 trim levels: S, SE, Titanium.

Here's the short version:

• S: This is the entry point, but it still brings a rear-view camera, blind-spot monitoring, and MyKey, so you’re not starting from scratch on safety and convenience. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the Escape, but the 2.5-liter engine and simpler equipment make it the least compelling choice overall.
• SE: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds the 1.6-liter EcoBoost, automatic headlights, fog lights, an 8-way power driver’s seat, and satellite radio without jumping all the way to Titanium pricing. If you want the strongest balance of features and value, this is the trim to target.
• Titanium: This is the most upscale version, with keyless entry and ignition, a power liftgate, a premium Sony audio system, ambient lighting, and more available tech through packages. It’s the right pick if you want the most comfort and convenience features, but you should expect to pay more for it.

The safety package is a meaningful upgrade if you want HID headlamps, blind-spot detection, auto wipers, and active park assist.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Ford Escape?

This is a moderate buyer’s market, so you can shop selectively and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 30.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 3,113 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.40% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 67.6% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $9,000, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 Ford Escape's resale value?

The current average of $9,037 sits slightly below last year's $9,759.

That softer pricing suggests the model has been under some resale pressure, which can be good news if you’re buying now but less favorable if you’re planning to sell soon. A lower current average also means future resale will likely depend heavily on condition, mileage, and trim desirability rather than broad market momentum alone.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.62/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2016 Ford Escape safe?

The 2016 Ford Escape earns an overall four-star rating from NHTSA, with four-star ratings in frontal crash tests and five-star ratings in side tests. It also earns a Good rating in moderate-overlap frontal-offset, side-impact, and roof-strength IIHS tests, but a Poor rating in the small-overlap frontal-offset test.

It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes antilock disc brakes, traction and stability control, a rear-view camera, blind-spot monitoring, MyKey parental controls, and a full suite of airbags. The available Technology Package adds HID headlamps, blind-spot detection, auto wipers, and active park assist.

The main caution is the poor small-overlap frontal-offset result, so you should pay close attention to crash history and front-end condition when shopping used.

Should I buy a 2016 Ford Escape or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 30.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 67.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.40% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.62/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It adds Sync 3 and a stronger mix of tech and trim content than the earlier model year.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $8,272, the 2015 costs less than the current year's $9,037 average.
• It feels more polished and upscale while still staying practical.

Consider the 2017 if:

• At $10,388, the 2017 costs more than the current year's $9,037 average.
• It brings a refresh with more modern features and improved safety tech.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, features, and market availability, the 2016 is the strongest middle-ground choice. If your priority is saving money, the 2015 is the better value play; if you want the newer refresh and can spend more, the 2017 is worth a look.
