CarGurus Analysis: 2016 Ford Edge
overall

Summary
With 76 currently listed for sale near San Antonio, TX and an average price of $12,235, 19.7% of 2016 Ford Edges for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2016 Ford Edge 4.45 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it an 8.5 / 10.
86.8% of 2016 Edge models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2016 Ford Edge stands out because Ford gave the Edge Sport a performance-focused identity in a family-oriented crossover. The expert test drive data says Ford was building out a “Sport” sub-brand for its larger cars and crossovers, and that the Edge Sport arrived shortly after the Explorer Sport. It also notes that the Edge Sport uses a standard twin-turbocharged V6 engine, which is the key reason it is positioned as a more performance-minded choice.
That performance angle is the main differentiator, but the broader appeal of the 2016 Ford Edge still comes through in owner feedback. Drivers commonly praise its comfortable ride, spacious interior, and smooth handling, along with the technology and features available, including AWD and the sound system. The main drawbacks mentioned are road noise and minor electronic glitches, so while it has a strong mix of comfort and capability, it is not entirely free of refinement issues.

The Ford Edge I bought was the titanium trim, so its absolutely loaded with features. The biggest surprises for me was that the rear seats are heated as well, and that the leather seats are some of the comfiest non- luxury brand seats Ive sat on. The V6 also offers enough power, abs the transmission is smooth through the gears. I was very pleasantly surprised by the quality and the ride of this vehicle.

| Year-Round Low | $11,226 |
| Year-Round High | $12,162 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $12,165 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −7.11% |

Is the 2016 Ford Edge a good car?
Generally — the 2016 Ford Edge earns a 4.45/5 user rating and an 8.5/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel, Form and function, Cost effectiveness, and Technology.
Owners consistently praise its comfortable ride, spacious interior, and smooth handling, and they also like the available technology and features such as AWD and the sound system. In use, it comes across as a family-friendly crossover that still has a performance edge in the Sport version, so you get a mix of everyday practicality and more engaging driving character.
The market also shows 30.4% good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2016 Ford Edge reliable?
Owners rate it 4.45/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.
User feedback points to a dependable-feeling ownership experience, with the Edge drawing praise for being comfortable and easy to live with over time. The expert drive notes also emphasize strong noise, vibration, and harshness isolation, which supports the impression of a well-sorted, trouble-free daily driver.
Ford also includes standard Sync with AppLink and 911 Assist, which adds a useful ownership perk for everyday peace of mind. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about basic durability and more about making sure any example you consider has been maintained well and doesn’t have unresolved electronic or brake-related issues.
What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Ford Edge?
At 66.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing has any accident record or incomplete service history. Pay close attention to brake feel, electronic behavior, and overall cabin condition, since those are the kinds of issues that can matter most in a used example. If you’re shopping the Sport version, make sure the tires and wheels are in good shape, since those can be costly to replace.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The SE starts with a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine and front-wheel drive, while the Sport adds standard all-wheel drive, a twin-turbocharged V6, 21-inch wheels, summer performance tires, and adaptive steering. The Sport is the most distinctive choice, but the SE is the value-oriented starting point.
- Powertrain: The Sport uses a twin-turbocharged 2.7-liter V6 with 315 horsepower and 350 lb-ft of torque, paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission. The engine delivers strong low-rpm thrust and standard all-wheel drive.
- Safety package: Standard equipment includes 911 Assist and MyKey, while available driver-assistance tech includes forward camera, semi-autonomous parking, forward-collision warning, and lane-keeping assist. The content also notes that automatic emergency braking is not included.
- Infotainment: Sync 3 brings a capacitive touch display, faster response, improved voice recognition, smartphone projection for Apple and Android devices, Siri Eyes Free, and Wi-Fi software updates.
- Fuel efficiency: The Sport returned 19.7 mpg in testing and was rated at 20 mpg in combined driving.
Which 2016 Ford Edge trim should I buy?
The 2016 Ford Edge is offered in 4 trim levels: SE, SEL, Titanium, Sport.
Here's the short version:
- SE: This is the entry point, with a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine and front-wheel drive. It makes sense if you want the lowest starting price and don’t need the extra equipment or performance focus of the higher trims.
- SEL: This trim moves you up the lineup with more equipment and access to a 3.5-liter V6. It’s the sensible middle ground if you want more content without jumping all the way to the Sport.
- Titanium: Like the SEL, it adds more features and is also available with the 3.5-liter V6. Choose it if you want a more upscale feel and more equipment than the lower trims.
- Sport: This is the standout trim, with the twin-turbocharged V6, standard all-wheel drive, adaptive steering, 21-inch wheels, and summer performance tires. It’s the best fit if you want the most engaging Edge and are willing to pay for it.
The Sport’s safety setup includes standard MyKey and 911 Assist, while available driver-assistance features include forward camera, semi-autonomous parking, forward-collision warning, and lane-keeping assist.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Ford Edge?
The market looks moderately favorable if you’re a selective buyer.
- Deal availability: 30.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,598 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 7.11% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 66.4% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $11,226, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2016 Ford Edge's resale value?
The current average of $11,300 sits slightly below last year's $12,165.
That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer today but may limit upside if you plan to resell soon. If you buy at the right price, you reduce the risk of taking a bigger hit later. The strongest resale candidates will be the cleanest, best-maintained examples with desirable equipment and no accident history.
Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.45/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2016 Ford Edge safe?
The 2016 Ford Edge earns an Acceptable rating from IIHS in the small overlap frontal impact test, and it earns five-star ratings in all NHTSA assessments, plus a four-star rollover resistance rating.
It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.
Standard safety equipment includes 911 Assist and MyKey, which adds programmable speed and audio limits and can even deactivate the stereo if passengers aren’t buckled up. Available driver-assistance features include forward camera, semi-autonomous parking, forward-collision warning, and lane-keeping assist, but the content also notes that automatic emergency braking is not included.
The main caveat is the weaker IIHS result and the lack of automatic emergency braking, both of which are worth weighing carefully if safety is a top priority.
Should I buy a 2016 Ford Edge or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2016 if:
- 30.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 66.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 7.11% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.45/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
- Ford’s 2016 update brings Sync 3 and a stronger Sport identity with a standard twin-turbo V6.
Consider the 2017 if:
- At $12,359, the 2017 costs more than the current year's $11,300 average.
- It emphasizes a more balanced family-crossover role with seating for five and generous cargo space.
The bottom line: If you want the better value today, the 2016 is the stronger buy because prices have eased and inventory is broad. If you’re willing to spend more for a newer model-year alternative, the 2017 is the cleaner choice for buyers who prioritize a straightforward family crossover over the 2016’s sportier personality.
