Is the 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD reliable?

Owner feedback highlights dependable heavy-duty performance, strong Duramax engine output, and overall build quality, all of which support confidence in day-to-day use. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is ending up with a truck that has been worked hard without proper maintenance or inspection.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD?

At 63.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and confirm whether any prior damage was repaired properly. A pre-purchase inspection should focus on signs of hard use, wear on the cabin and bed, and any evidence of neglected maintenance. Because this is a heavy-duty truck, you’ll want to pay close attention to how the truck was used and whether its condition matches the seller’s claims.

What is the 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD's resale value?

The current average of $28,127 sits slightly below last year's $29,290.

That softer pricing suggests the truck has become a bit easier to buy, which can also mean future sellers may need to stay competitive on asking price. Demand should remain supported by the model’s strong owner satisfaction and heavy-duty capability.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.4/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 30.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 63.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.97% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2017 if:

• At $30,131, the 2017 costs more than the current year's $28,127 average.
• It adds an all-new diesel engine with stronger power and torque for harder work.

The bottom line: If you want the better value today, the 2016 is the stronger starting point because it combines a lower average price with solid owner satisfaction. If your priority is maximum work-focused capability and you’re willing to pay more, the 2017 is the better upgrade path. For price-sensitive buyers, the 2016 is the more practical choice.
