Is the 2016 Cadillac CTS reliable?

The expert drive notes also emphasize confident braking and a truly fun driving experience, which supports the sense that the car is well sorted in daily use.

The cost-effectiveness notes point to strong value for the equipment you get, which can help reduce the sting of ownership over time. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that brief owner reviews leave less detail on specific problem patterns, so a careful pre-purchase inspection matters.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Cadillac CTS?

At 58.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and confirm whether any prior damage was repaired properly. A pre-purchase inspection should focus on bodywork quality, electronics, and the operation of the driver-assistance and infotainment systems. It also makes sense to prioritize condition over mileage alone, since luxury features can be expensive to sort out if they were neglected.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Luxury trim adds leather seating, a Bose stereo, a navigation system, some safety tech, and 17-inch, 10-spoke wheels. The Performance trim adds magnetic ride control, surround view, parking sensors, 18-inch wheels, and automatic parking assist. The Premium test car adds a fully digital, fully customizable instrument panel, adaptive cruise control, a 20-way power driver’s seat, and carbon-fiber inserts.
• Powertrain: The base engine is a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline 4-cylinder with 268 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. The lineup also includes a 3.6-liter V6 with 335 horsepower and a twin-turbo 3.6-liter V6 with 420 hp and 430 lb-ft of torque. Power goes through an 8-speed automatic to the rear wheels or available all-wheel drive.
• Safety package: A standard driver-awareness package includes blind-spot monitoring, lane-departure warning, rear cross-traffic alerts, and rain-sensing wipers. The CTS also includes 8 airbags, a backup camera, and a surround-view monitor.
• Infotainment: Cadillac User Experience uses a touchscreen layout with customizable menus, Apple CarPlay, and access to phone, text, music, maps, and apps. The system also includes OnStar and a head-up display on the test model.
• Fuel efficiency: The base 2.0-liter model is described as the starting point, but no MPG figure is stated in the available data.

Which 2016 Cadillac CTS trim should I buy?

The 2016 Cadillac CTS is offered in 4 trim levels: Standard, Luxury, Performance, Premium.

Here's the short version:

• Standard: This is the entry point if you want the CTS experience at the lowest cost, but the available data shows that the more appealing equipment starts showing up quickly as you move up the range.
• Luxury: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds leather seating, a Bose stereo, navigation, some safety tech, and 17-inch wheels without jumping all the way to the top of the lineup.
• Performance: Choose this if you want the most useful chassis and parking upgrades, including magnetic ride control, surround view, parking sensors, 18-inch wheels, and automatic parking assist.
• Premium: This is the right pick if you want the most complete CTS, with the digital instrument panel, adaptive cruise control, 20-way power driver’s seat, and carbon-fiber inserts.

The standard driver-awareness package includes blind-spot monitoring, lane-departure warning, rear cross-traffic alerts, and rain-sensing wipers.

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so it rewards shoppers who compare listings carefully.

• Deal availability: 27.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 230 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.65% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $12,884, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 Cadillac CTS's resale value?

The current average of $12,902 sits slightly below last year's $13,822.

That softer pricing suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable point in the cycle. If you plan to sell later, the current trend means you should expect resale value to depend heavily on condition, mileage, and equipment level. Well-kept examples with desirable features should hold up better than neglected ones, especially in a luxury sedan segment where buyers compare equipment closely.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.9/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2016 Cadillac CTS safe?

The CTS earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

It has a standard driver-awareness package that includes blind-spot monitoring, lane-departure warning, rear cross-traffic alerts, and rain-sensing wipers. It also comes with 8 airbags, a backup camera, and a surround-view monitor, which helps with parking and low-speed maneuvering. The available data does not point to a major safety shortcoming, but you should still verify that the driver-assistance features work properly on any used example.

Should I buy a 2016 Cadillac CTS or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 27.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 58.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.65% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.9/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2016 brings a more refined, high-tech version of the CTS with key updates over the prior year.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $12,324, the 2015 costs less than the current year's $12,902 average.
• It gets the fundamentals right while feeling carefully executed and distinctly sporty.

The bottom line: If you want the more polished and tech-forward version, the 2016 is the better target. If your priority is saving money and you still want the CTS formula, the 2015 is the value play.

How does the 2016 Cadillac CTS compare to the 2016 BMW 3 Series?

Our experts score the 2016 Cadillac CTS 8.3/10 and the 2016 BMW 3 Series 7.5/10. The CTS brings the stronger overall expert score and a more upscale, tech-heavy feel, while the BMW counters with a lower average used price and more listings to shop. If you want the richer feature set and a more modern luxury presentation, the CTS has the edge. If you want more inventory and a lower entry price, the 3 Series is the easier car to find.
