CarGurus Analysis: 2016 Cadillac ATS
overall

Summary
With 264 currently listed for sale and an average price of $11,967, 28.0% of 2016 Cadillac ATSs for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2016 Cadillac ATS 4.2 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.5 / 10.
46.6% of 2016 ATS models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2016 Cadillac ATS stands out as a sharper, better-equipped version of an already well-regarded luxury sedan. According to the test-drive notes, it improves on the previous year with a new 3.6-liter V6 that adds cylinder deactivation and 12 additional horsepower, while upper trims benefit from a more potent, fuel-efficient engine and a better infotainment system. It also gains Apple CarPlay, giving the ATS a more modern tech setup for buyers who want stronger smartphone integration.
Beyond those updates, the ATS still leans on the qualities that made it appealing in the first place: a competent chassis and impeccable road manners. That combination helps it deliver the kind of handling and driving polish that owners often praise, along with a smooth ride and a fun, luxury-sedan feel. The tradeoff is that the cabin can feel cramped, especially when getting in and out of the driver’s side, and some owners have also pointed to infotainment issues and interior finish that does not quite match some competitors.

If you were considering a pre owned German sedan, dont. The ATS has a superb chassis, excellent road manners, and tons of tech. The cons are the interior fit and finish dont quite live up to the comp A4, and if youre not use to smart phone interfaces such as Android or the latest IOS you may not like the CUE infotainment system. Overall its a great compact luxury sedan thats a ton of fun to drive, and has a really good power train is easily take one over a 330i or C300

Is the 2016 Cadillac ATS reliable?
Owners rate it 4.2/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Cadillac ATS?
At 46.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle-history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has had prior bodywork or higher mileage. Pay close attention to cabin condition, infotainment operation, and how the car feels on the road, since the ATS’s appeal depends heavily on its driving polish and interior presentation. If you’re comparing multiple examples, focus on the one that feels the most complete and least worn.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base 2.5-liter setup is limited to Standard or Luxury trims, while the 2.0-liter turbo adds Standard, Luxury, Performance, and Premium choices; the 3.6-liter V6 is offered in Luxury, Performance, and Premium only. The higher trims bring the more desirable equipment and better overall execution, while the base setup is the most stripped-down version.
- Powertrain: You get a 2.5-liter four-cylinder, a 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder, or a 3.6-liter V6, all paired with an 8-speed automatic in the sedan. The 2.5-liter is the least compelling choice, while the turbo four is the best compromise of power and efficiency.
- Safety package: The ATS comes standard with airbags, disc brakes, traction control, and antilock braking. Optional equipment includes blind-spot monitoring, forward collision alerts, automatic seatbelt tightening, lane-departure warnings, and cross-traffic alerts, with a heads-up display available in Performance and Premium models.
- Infotainment: The ATS gets Apple CarPlay and an upgraded infotainment system, centered around an 8-inch touchscreen. The setup is better than before, but the steering-wheel controls can still be confusing.
- Fuel efficiency: The 2.5-liter four-cylinder returns 21 mpg city and 33 highway, the 2.0-liter turbo rear-wheel-drive automatic returns 21/30, the all-wheel-drive turbo returns 20/28, and the 3.6-liter V6 returns 20/30.
Which 2016 Cadillac ATS trim should I buy?
The 2016 Cadillac ATS is offered in 7 trim levels: Standard, Luxury, Performance, Premium, Standard, Luxury, Performance, and Premium.
Here's the short version:
- Standard: This is the entry point, but it’s the least appealing way into the ATS because the base 2.5-liter setup is the most modest and the trim structure is the most stripped-down.
- Luxury: This is the best-value trim if you want the ATS experience without jumping too far up the price ladder. It gives you a more complete version of the car and is available with the stronger engine choices.
- Performance: This is the right pick if you want a more engaging feel and the added equipment that comes with the upper-middle trims. It also unlocks the available heads-up display.
- Premium: This is the most fully equipped version and the one to choose if you want the strongest overall package, including the available Magnetic Ride Control and the most upscale presentation.
The safety package is available as optional equipment, so check carefully for the driver-assistance features you want rather than assuming they’re standard.

That softer pricing suggests the ATS has moved into a more buyer-friendly phase, which can help you get in at a lower cost today. Should I buy a 2016 Cadillac ATS or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2016 if:
- 28.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 46.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 4.99% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.2/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
- It adds a new 3.6-liter V6 with cylinder deactivation, more horsepower, and Apple CarPlay.
Consider the 2015 if:
- At $11,005, the 2015 costs less than the current year's $11,955 average.
- It emphasizes Cadillac’s reinvention with a more polished, thoughtfully executed compact luxury feel.
The bottom line: If you want the better-equipped ATS with stronger tech and a more modern powertrain, the 2016 is the better default choice. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2015 is the simpler value play, especially if you find a clean example with the right equipment.
