Is the 2016 BMW X6 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The 2016 BMW X6’s appeal comes from its upscale cabin, strong engines, and generous equipment, but its style-first design also means you should expect tradeoffs in practicality and ownership costs. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that a premium vehicle with this kind of performance focus can become more expensive to keep in top condition over time.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 BMW X6?

At 60.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and confirm whether any prior damage was repaired properly. Put inspection priority on body panels, alignment, tires, and signs of uneven wear, since those can reveal past collision issues or neglected maintenance. Focus on overall condition and documentation, because a premium SUV like this is best bought when its maintenance and repair history are clear.

What is the 2016 BMW X6's resale value?

The current average of $16,946 sits slightly below last year's $19,998.

That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable entry point today. For a future seller, the key takeaway is that resale value will depend heavily on condition, mileage, and how well the vehicle has been maintained. Because this model is positioned as a premium, style-driven SUV, clean examples with strong presentation should remain easier to market than neglected ones.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2016 BMW X6 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 32.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 60.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 15.26% compared with last year.

The bottom line: If you want the X6’s distinctive style, strong equipment, and a price that has moved down meaningfully, the 2016 is the right place to focus. If you’re especially price-sensitive, you can also compare nearby years, but the 2016 offers a solid balance of market value and buyer appeal for shoppers who want this model’s premium, coupe-like character.
