How much does the 2016 BMW 5 Series cost?

Prices have softened 9.38% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 822 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2016 BMW 5 Series a good car?

Yes — the 5/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction. Drivers consistently praise its powerful performance, luxurious comfort, and extensive range of features, and many also like the smooth driving experience and available M Sport suspension. For you, that makes it a strong fit if you want a midsize luxury sedan that balances daily comfort with a more engaging feel. With 31.8% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is also meaningful market opportunity if you shop carefully.

Is the 2016 BMW 5 Series reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback highlights a car that many owners find dependable in day-to-day use, with praise centered on its strong performance and comfortable, trouble-free ownership experience. The same feedback also suggests that buyers tend to value the car’s long-term appeal when it delivers the expected BMW mix of refinement and capability. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that maintenance history matters, so condition and service records should carry extra weight.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 BMW 5 Series?

At 59.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and confirm whether any prior damage was repaired properly. Then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially for signs of electrical issues, cooling-system concerns, or other maintenance needs that can affect ownership costs. Focus on overall condition, service records, and how the car drives, since those factors matter more than mileage alone on a used luxury sedan.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 BMW 5 Series?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can be choosy if you shop with patience.

• Deal availability: 31.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 822 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.38% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 59.6% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $12,081, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 BMW 5 Series's resale value?

The current average of $12,082 sits slightly below last year's $13,333.

That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer but may limit upside if you plan to resell soon. If you buy at the right price and keep the car in strong condition, you can reduce the impact of further depreciation. A well-kept example should still appeal to shoppers who want a luxury sedan with strong performance and features.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2016 BMW 5 Series or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 31.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 59.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.38% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2017 if:

• At $16,957, the 2017 costs more than the current year's $12,082 average.
• It brings a full redesign with a new chassis, updated engines, and a lighter structure.

The bottom line: If you want the better value today, the 2016 is the stronger buy because it combines lower pricing with solid owner satisfaction and decent deal availability. If you can stretch your budget and want the newer redesign, the 2017 is the better secondary path for buyers who prioritize the updated platform over upfront savings.
