How much does the 2016 BMW 5 Series cost?

Prices have softened 8.07% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 830 listings available, which gives you a solid pool to compare prices and equipment.

Is the 2016 BMW 5 Series a good car?

Yes — the 2016 BMW 5 Series earns a 5/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction.

Drivers consistently praise its powerful performance, luxurious comfort, and extensive feature content. The review summary also highlights the smooth driving experience and the available M Sport suspension, which should matter if you want a sedan that feels polished but still engaging. If you’re shopping for a midsize luxury sedan that balances daily comfort with a strong feature set, this model year fits that use case well.

With 32.9% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have a meaningful chance to find a competitively priced example.

Is the 2016 BMW 5 Series reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The review summary points to a car that many drivers find dependable in day-to-day use, with praise centered on its strong performance and smooth driving experience. It also suggests that owners value the car’s comfort and feature-rich character over the long haul. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that a premium sedan like this can become costly if prior maintenance has been inconsistent.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 BMW 5 Series?

At 60.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report so you can confirm accident records, title status, and service history before you go any further. After that, prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially on the cooling system, electrical systems, and any signs of uneven wear or deferred maintenance. Because this model can be complex, condition and documentation matter more than mileage alone.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 BMW 5 Series?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find value.

• Deal availability: 32.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 830 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.07% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 60.4% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $12,158, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 BMW 5 Series's resale value?

The current average of $12,160 sits slightly below last year's $13,227.

That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable entry point. For a future seller, that also means resale value may depend heavily on condition, maintenance records, and how well the car presents against similar listings. Well-kept examples should stand out more clearly in a market where pricing has softened.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2016 BMW 5 Series or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 32.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 60.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.07% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2017 if:

• At $16,859, the 2017 costs more than the current year's $12,160 average.
• It brings a full redesign with a new chassis and updated technology.

The bottom line: If you want the better value play, the 2016 is the stronger primary choice because it combines lower pricing with strong owner satisfaction. If you’re willing to spend more for a newer redesign and updated hardware, the 2017 is the better secondary path for buyers who prioritize the latest version over upfront savings.
