CarGurus Analysis: 2016 Audi Q3
overall

Summary
With 49 currently listed for sale and an average price of $9,672, 14.3% of 2016 Audi Q3 listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2016 Audi Q3 4 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 6 / 10.
73.5% of 2016 Audi Q3 listings on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2016 Audi Q3 stands out as Audi’s smallest SUV, and it brings some of the brand’s familiar strengths into a more affordable package. It delivers the same rock-like quality as its larger siblings, along with nimble handling and a quiet interior. For buyers who want an Audi SUV without stepping up to the Q5 or Q7, the Q3’s lower price can be a meaningful draw.
That said, the 2016 Q3 is also a fairly stripped-down proposition. The source notes that you do not get much else beyond its core virtues, so its appeal is strongest for shoppers who value a compact footprint, a refined cabin, and a premium feel more than a long list of extras.

In my search for a Audi SUV I’ve come to realize the Q3 is small and doesn’t feel quite as luxurious as the Q5. My suggestion would be to go for the Q5! For a little more money you’ll get a much smoother ride and it drives like a dream.

Owners rate it 4/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.
The Q3’s 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder is described as responsive and refined, and the ride is hushed and isolated. That combination points to a compact luxury SUV that should feel composed in daily use, especially if you value smoothness over excitement.
The cost side is less reassuring, though, because the model is described as offering little justification versus some less expensive rivals and as needing updates in electronics and interior design. For used buyers, that means long-term ownership risk is less about outright mechanical drama and more about whether you are comfortable with its limited feature set and aging tech.
What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Audi Q3?
At 63.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually strong. Focus on overall condition, because this model’s appeal depends heavily on its cabin quality, quietness, and premium feel.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base setup is light on extras, while the higher trim adds the Technology package, a power tailgate, larger 19-inch wheels, LED headlamps, and a 14-speaker Bose stereo. If you want the most complete version, the higher trim is the one that better matches the Q3’s premium positioning.
- Powertrain: The 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder is paired with a 6-speed automatic and delivers quick, smooth response with minimal lag. The all-wheel-drive setup is the standard choice in most markets, and the engine is described as refined rather than especially powerful.
- Safety package: The Technology package adds blind-spot monitoring and a color display. The model does not offer a collision warning system, and that gap is important because it affects how the vehicle is positioned on the safety front.
- Infotainment: Without the Technology package, the cabin is sparse, with a monochrome instrument display. The package adds navigation with traffic overlays, Audi Connect, Google Earth topography, 3-D cities, onboard Wi-Fi, local fuel prices, parking info, and weather.
- Fuel efficiency: The Q3 returned 23 mpg in testing and is EPA-rated at 20 mpg city/28 highway.
Which 2016 Audi Q3 trim should I buy?
The 2016 Audi Q3 is offered in 2 trim levels: Premium Plus and Prestige.
Here's the short version:
- Premium Plus: This is the better-value choice if you want the Q3’s core luxury feel without stretching for the top trim. It already gives you the compact premium-SUV experience, and it is the trim most shoppers should start with if they want to keep the purchase price in check.
- Prestige: This is the one to choose if you want the most complete Q3. It adds the Technology package, a power tailgate, larger 19-inch wheels, LED headlamps, and a 14-speaker Bose stereo, so it suits you best if you care more about convenience and features than minimizing cost.
The safety package note to keep in mind is that the Technology package adds blind-spot monitoring, but the Q3 still does not offer a collision warning system.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Audi Q3?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you are patient.
- Deal availability: 33.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 455 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 8.79% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 63.1% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $11,227, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2016 Audi Q3's resale value?
The current average of $11,227 sits slightly below last year's $12,309.
That decline suggests the Q3 has softened in the market, which can make it easier for you to buy but less favorable if you are thinking about future trade-in value. If you purchase at the right price, you may reduce the risk of taking a bigger depreciation hit later. The model’s premium badge and compact-SUV appeal still help it stay relevant with shoppers who want a smaller Audi.
Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2016 Audi Q3 safe?
The 2016 Audi Q3 is a 2015 Top Safety Pick from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and scored Good ratings in all five crash tests.
It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.
The Q3’s safety equipment includes blind-spot monitoring when equipped with the Technology package, but it does not offer a collision warning system. It also does not have knee airbags, which is a notable omission for a luxury SUV.
Should I buy a 2016 Audi Q3 or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2016 if:
- 33.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 63.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 8.79% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
- The 2016 Q3 is a 2015 Top Safety Pick and scored Good in all five IIHS crash tests.
The bottom line: If you want the lowest current asking prices and are comfortable with a compact luxury SUV that is more about refinement than features, the 2016 Q3 is worth a look. If you are price-sensitive, focus on the best-equipped examples and compare them carefully against other years, because the Q3’s value depends heavily on finding the right trim and condition.
